My goal is to buy a new guitar around December this year so I'm doing some window shopping way ahead of time. I have an Eastman AR810CE. It's a 2009 model so this is before it had the embedded pickup. It has a floating pickup. That being said, I really love this configuration. But I'm going to be transitioning to a smaller body from the 17 inch to the 16 inch.
What I'm looking for is any and all archtop guitars that are 16" at the lower bout, and that have mahogany back and sides (and even those rare finds that have the mahogany top as well). The ones I already know about and don't need any information are the Heritage Eagle and the Eastman AR605. I've heard enough about these and they're already on my list of considerations so I would appreciate it if you guys leave those ones out of the conversation. Thank you very much. Also no laminate guitars or set humbucker guitars because most of what I play is unplugged/plugged-in + mic. I like a real good acoustic tone with the sound of the handmade KA. I don't mind replacing electronics or doing a good setup on the guitar myself once I get it, so bad electronics and setup are just fine with me.
Thank you guys in advance! This forum is always great with this kind of info.
Edit: I'm not looking for a mahogany top as well. I was just saying that I would be okay with a mahogany top. Sorry for any misunderstanding! Thank you.Last edited by broturtel; 04-22-2022 at 09:38 AM.

Could a luthier-build be in your budget? Here in Europe they start at around 4k€ which isn't that much more than what a new Eastman costs (here). No idea though how much extra you'd pay for mahogany, but this is probably the only way to get a carved hog top.
EDIT - ah, under $3k. Hmm, maybe contact Mr. Wu?
I did just learn about the Rozeo Lady Bug in a different thread, but that's a 14", and *probably* an all-laminate.
I quite like the woody sound of an all-hog flattop, in an archtop it might make the instrument too mid-rangy?

or how about a nice kit

Anytime you go a different spec than usual expect to pay more in my experience. That said try Stephen Holst, or Frans Elferink guitars perhaps they can accommodate your build for close to your budget.

I've heard a lot about Mr. Wu. I think I will give him a shout. Also, I might have wrote the post weird. I'm not looking for mahogany top as well, but I wouldn't mind a mahogany top is what I mean. In any case, I'll give Mr. Wu a shout and see what he can do about hog sides on a 16". Thanks for your input!
