With the acquisition of my Quilter SB, I thought about replacing the speaker in my JMUL cab with an 8 ohm 12” speaker. It would then be compatible with my Fender and Quilter heads.

    Open to suggestions and advice.

My understanding is that 8 ohms speaker vs. the I believe 2 ohms speaker, will cut your overall volume level. But, the JMUL is so loud with the two ohm cabinet that maybe it can push that 8 ohms to a level that you are satisfied with?

Just my thoughts. Poor soul that I am, when I squeeze into the small space that I have been relegated (a walk-in closet), and I turn on that JMUL, it does not take much of a turn of the volume knob before I am being blown away by the volume.

I had my JMUL a long time ago but, back then, I tried it with quite a few speakers. The Jensen Tornado sounded very good and it's similar to the stock Jensen NEO - although it was a pair of them in an oversized 2x12 cab, so that might have helped. The Tornado (and the regular NEO) is available in 4 ohm, which is compatible with both the Quilter and the JMUL, and this way you won't loose so much volume.

Thanks Jorge. Exactly the sort of info I was looking for. Suggested 4 ohm speakers?

If you're just going to use the JMUL cabinet with a Quilter or similar, the speaker impedance isn't that important. The Fender can deal with the higher impedance, and the reduction in volume will be only a very few dBs, and perhaps not even perceptible, at 10 on the knob. I have rewired my Vibrolux Reverb to run the two speakers in series vs parallel, which gives 16 Ohms instead of the stock 4. It sounds much better, and to get about the same volume I only have to turn the knob about half a number or less. I doubt you will often run the JMUL head at full volume, and that's the only time you would ever see any volume difference. It might even sound better with a higher impedance speaker, because the amp would be working just slightly harder at a comparable sound level.

The original Jensen Neo hasn't been available since 2017 when I started buying Tornados, an obvious replacement/upgrade. Funny how some vendors still list it, "out of stock" of course.
