Just bought online a guitar case, “Boston” brand model cjz 500 18. This one: CJZ-500-18 - Boston Musical Products
the case itself was very nicely priced and looks of decent quality. However, I was suprised to see that the inside measured 44 cm i.e. just over 17”. Especially since the website doesnt list any specific dimensions but just states “ideal for transportation and protection of your 18 inch jazz guitar”
The guitar I wanted to fit is even a bit smaller, more like 17-7/8”, but I definately cannot fit it in, even when the foam is all compressed. Even if it would, that would not be my interpretation of “ideal”. But it simply doesnt.
of course I ll return it (or might even keep, as spare for a 17”+ guitar… old Epi’s are a bit over 17” as well…)
- but buyer be aware

Hmm, did you buy from Boston directly? Seems to me should they know the difference between 17 and 18". How confident are you that you received the correct case? Are there any model markings in the case itself? I mean some employee might have picked an incorrect model from the warehouse....

Yes it came from a dealer, brand new, label on it. It is the supposed 18” model alright.

A Chinese case named for an American city, sold only in Europe. What could go wrong?
Why not just give up, spend a huge bag of money on shipping, and get a real 18" case sent over from North America?
I have a pile of them here.

This seems to be the normal state of affairs nowadays, and none of it would have bothered me, as long as they had their Imperial measuring tape in hand when designing the case and/or their website. To pick a fantasy name is quite okay, compared to picking a fantasy size, which isnt.
