Differences, yes, but they're subtle (to my ears, anyway) and not at the level that make me think they're fundamentally different instruments. I do hear a fundamental difference between, say, an L5, or virtually any guitar with a floater, and the sounds here, so it's not as if I'm completely undiscerning. But whatever differences you're hearing, I'm not hearing to anywhere near the same extent. Also, if you go back to things you've said about these instruments, you've actually said at some length that you think they're very "thunky" and capture the 175 essence, so I'm trying to understand how that squares with what you perceive now. Ultimately it doesn't really matter -- we both like our guitars. But it is a curiosity to me.
i think part of the problem is that the recording I did was not a great one. I agree that in listening to that recording that there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between the 3 guitars

I def think there’s a difference, the 175 has a different “envelope”. It has a more percussive attack and is a bit more lively in the highs. The jazz hawk def has more low end in this recording. I think the standard sounds very different tho.

I think I would be fairly happy with a jazz hawk (if I could find one), even if it’s not exactly like the real deal. So I’m gonna keep my mind open if one would show up, but I’m def leaning towards a real 175.

Thanks again to everyone that has replied in this thread. I really appreciate all the insight you’ve given.

Regardless of what Jack z (or “someone” he knows) say or think -
its been posted before, beginning at 2.45, the Archtop tribute sounds quite authentic, moreso than the majority of copys but we all hear differently.
Take in account of the player (touch and picking), strings/amp/recording.

I stupidly let a good Gibson 175 go 20years ago, if not a original and i wanted something similar again, Archtop tribute would make nr.1 on my list.

That guitar sounds very good but he is clearly a very experienced player with good taste.
