I built this Dumble HRM (Marshall) style amplifier based on a friend's amplifier many years ago. Before these amplifiers were selling for a lot of money and not many people knew about them. It has been so long that this amplifier needed a tune up. It was sounding pretty bad.

This is what it sounds like with the new tubes:

There are 7 trimmers inside, including the bias pot. Lots of tonal possibilities 'under the hood.'
The two amps sounded a little different, but I thought mine sounded pretty darn good.

    Sounds great and looks tidy!

I've had my Brown Note D'Lite 44 build fired up recently. The D'Lite wasn't a precise copy -- only one trim-pot into the distortion cascade and the bias trim -- and this model is 2x 6L6.

It was the toughest build I've tried by far -- the scratch-built Tweedle-D "Dumble 5E3" was a walk in the park in comparison. The D'Lite delivers tons of girth and headroom for jazz cleans galore.

    Nice amp.
What do you think about the "Jazz" switch, seeing as this is a "Jazz" forum

I actually think the "Jazz" setting sounds very good with archtops. I'll have to post a sample of this amp's clean channel with some full hollowbody archtops.

Another component to the tone is my ported speaker cabinet, built to the same specs as the original. Key element is the EVM 12S speaker like was in an original cabinet. 20 years ago that speaker was not so hard to find. These days they are pretty rare.

Thank you. I wanted to try parallel filaments instead of twisting, and it's plenty o' quiet.
You went a lot farther, fabbing your own boards -- that wood-look board is shweet!

Lately I've been digging it as a head into a Raezer's Edge 12ER. The combo is just too darn heavy.

This one lacks the Jazz switch -- it's got Bright, Overdrive and Preamp Boost / tone-stack defeat. It would be great to hear the Jazz button.

I see the PAB switch, and wasn't sure if you knew of it's origin. Many of the tiny toggle switches are 'break before make' and therefore the JAZZ/ROCK switch will disconnect the entire tone stack from ground it centered in the middle. So, originally one could put a 3 position switch on JAZZ/ROCK and get PAB in the middle position. Later this function was put on a relay and foot-switch. So one can add a JAZZ/ROCK function to a D-lite and still have PAB on the same switch (middle position).

    "S-Line" that is Audi, right?

    Fascinating. Downright cool.

    Eager to hear that!

Yep. Auto badges are cheap and easy on EBay.
I'm glad you caught the joke!
