Has anyone ever used a EBMM Luke3 HSS for Jazz?
What are/were you thoughts on it?
Any thoughts on an amp pairing with it?

A little preface: I have spent hours upon hours at music stores. I love checking out high end gear, and I have a bad case of GAS.

I played a bunch of high end EBMM guitars in a local store, a number of years ago.

The two I liked most where Albert Lee with HBs and the Luke. (The other one I liked a lot was a St. Vincent, but that is in a different type of world).

I think the AL might work a little better for jazz.

The luke was more like a super strat. I am not a strat person. (I have played a bunch of incredible strats but I have never bonded with any of them). Having said all that: I almost bought a Luke a couple of times.

The Luke has one of my fav trems. That trem was smooth, responsive and more able to be musical then any trems I have. (Including high end PRS trems and even a high end Parker). The only better super strat type of guitar that impressed me more was a Tom Anderson.

High end EBMM guitars are always excellent (as long as QC is working). I think they might be the only guitars that I do not automatically want to replace PU in. Those PU are also musical. They tend to breath and are responsive. I guess I would say they are somewhat like Lollar PUs.

The Luke also comes in a 2-humbucker model, with unique switching capabilities; it might be a bit more applicable for jazz?

It’s a very nice instrument that should be great for jazz with flats and a warm, clean amp. I played a Carvin with very similar shape, construction, feel, and sound for over 20 years on gigs of all kinds and loved it. It was hum/hum, but they were Carvin’s hot ones and it had a coil split (which I used a lot) - this style of guitar is designed and built for rockers, not us. I’d get the H/H version of the Luke, just as I did with my Carvin (which was a custom shop build to my spec).

I only sold it because I’m old, not gigging nearly as much as I used to, and now downsized to an apartment. Here’s a short fingerstyle jazz tune (one of the clips I made for the sale posting), with RW strings and tone settings for more of a hollow body sound. With Chromes and treble rolloff, these guitars get a very nice jazzy tone in the laminated set pickup style. It was recorded straight to my DAI with no effects or EQ:
