My 1981 L-5 has the following initials under the truss rod cover. I was hoping someone might have any idea who it might belong to? I’ve seen similar in Guild guitars from the 90s but not on a Gibson.
it either reads GBN DBN or BBN

Maybe it was a previous owner who put it there not a Gibson employee?

thanks Gary, I wondered that as well but it’s under the clearcoat

Probably the individual who carved and fitted the neck. My Guild Benedetto AA made in Westerly RI contains the initials of the guy who carved and fitted the neck. I only know this from reading a Just Jazz Guitar article from 20 years ago and seeing a picture and name which matched the initials. I bought the guitar new in 2000.

On a side note I would get one of those taller Stew Mac trussrod nuts and put a washer under it also.

Thanks Vinny, it had 13s on and almost no relief so it’s backed off a bit but good suggestion on the longer nut/washer.
