Played an Ibanez AS53 that I can get real cheap. Surprisingly nice for the $$. I love the spartan design and it sounds and plays much better than I would have expected.

Do I need it? Honestly no. It would strictly be a cure for GAS. I am looking at it as a potentially great backup or "beater," or a mod platform. So it would be a totally unnecessary purchase.

Please feel free to give me a dose of "sanity"!

    No one lives forever.

Some lose the ability to play even before they depart.

    Do it!

If you feel guilty, do a "good deed."

The question I ask myself is this: What is it that I want to do musically that I can’t do with my current instruments? Is there a way to get to that musical result without buying another instrument?

GAS cannot be cured it can only be medicated. With guitars.

I made the mistake once to buy a new AS-53. It was really cheap, but still did not worth the price. Loving on not loving its sound is matter of taste, but the hardware was so crap, I did not experienced similar in the previous decades, not even in the price range of $150 - 200...

    I sold it asap.

    I hope this helps :-)

Don't buy it. Get one or two good instruments and bond with them.

Surprised to hear that. It's the first negative thing I have heard about that model. The one I played was actually much nicer than I expected at that price point.

I already have several great instruments. This would fill a void in my mind; not in my collection.

And there is the best description of GAS I have ever seen!

it also answers your own question better than anything else.

Just to be fully informed, I sic'ed the Googles on this. Now I want one!

Seriously. What a bargain. I'd work the back-up angle to assuage any lingering doubts. If and when you no longer have a use for this instrument, sell or gift it to an aspiring student. It's what I do.

As a confirmed gas-aholic, this is the sad truth. Awareness is the first step towards recovery!
