Just got the DV Mark 208 cabinet in and it sounds really nice as a cabinet for my Little Jazz. I really love 8" speakers. But you have to be in the right position to hear the good sounds. It's very focussed.

However, on some positions there's a bit of a buzz/rattle in the cabinet. Does it need to be broken in, or is something wrong?

Update: the rattling/buzz is mostly on the middle Eb. I pushed a bit against the edges around the grill cloth and it disappeared for a short while. So I guess it's not a faulty speaker, but something in the construction of the cabinet.

There is something wrong with the cabinet. I have a 208 that I use with the DV Micro 50 Jazz head and it has become my favorite amp at home. Everything is tight and solid with no buzzes or rattles.

Should I try to send it back you think? They probably don't have another one for a swap.

I've had that problem with amps and cabs, and it usually turned out to be something in the room resonating and vibrating. More than once I could have sworn the buzz was coming from the amp, but it wasn't. All sorts of things can vibrate in a room, and it can be hard to isolate the exact cause. The first thing I always check is another guitar hanging on a wall, or on a stand. If that doesn't help, I look at stuff on the wall - pictures, whatever else might be hanging. Small objects on shelves can do it. If you don't find the resonating object rather quickly, take the amp to another room and see what you get. Ideally, you could take it outside and see if it still buzzes, but that's not always an acceptable way to test, depending on where you are.

    Thanks!
Tried your advice and in another room it's also there. I've looked at the construction and because all of the nails have been popped in it seems to be hard to take it apart.

I'm not sure I could live with it. In a band setting, a lot of the sound will be camouflaged by other players, but I really hate it when things make noises they're not supposed to do.

If returning it for another isn’t practical for some reason, I’d open it up and make sure there’s not a tag or other loose part vibrating inside. Removing the grille is another good test if possible. If the extraneous noise goes away with it off, you may be able to stop it with a little piece of foam between the baffle and the grille.

Yes, I think I'm going to give that a try. The base player in my combo is an engineer who might also want to look at it for me.

On my 208 cab there is a pull tab on the bottom of the speaker grill cover. I believe this is to facilitate taking the cover off to get to the speakers. I have never had mine off. Could the grill be loose and just need to be pushed back into place? It's probably held by Velcro.

OK, pulled the grill out, which looks really tight fitting to me. Everything underneath, but also the cab in general looks very tight and neat.

At high volumes there is still a bit of rattling/buzzing in that particular Eb range, but it is significantly less than with the grill on. I haven't put the grill back on yet, because I might want to to take it further apart. The drivers are front mounted, so I could take them out, but I can live with the situation as it is now.

Any advice what would be a smart thing to do?

Yeah, if it's brand new and it bugs you, send it back.
