Maybe this is a stupid question, but what makes Ibanez archtops like the George Benson or Pat Metheny models more comfortable than, say, an ES175 that they both seem modeled after? I’ve heard they’re comfortable but don’t know why.

An ES175 is still deeper at 3 3/8". Doesn't sound like much but every 1/8" makes a difference towards comfort, especially a we age. How many guitars here are going to 15" 2 1/2" guitars because their former guitars are no longer comfortable to them. Myself, I'm a piano player, so I don't know the difference between a guitar that's uncomfortable. But I've owned some 105 guitars in ten years and I know the difference between too big and just right. My Super 400 was too big, even for me and I'm 6' 4". It seemed even deeper than 3 3/8". My perfect sized guitar was a Guild Artist Award 17" by 3 3/8".

2B... have fun with that cutie! And good you Mike for the loan). I had a chance to spend time with a GB200 and agree its a great example of what the “J Team” (custom group) at Fujigen is capable of. (Sadly it was going for 1000+ over the PM. I preferred the tone of the GB its a spruce GB vs maple PM thing)

In answer to Rob’s question here are the body depths of my two Ibanez MIJs, and the TF for comparison. Note the PM is same as 2B’s GB.

AF200 2 3/4”
PM200 3 1/8”
TF 2 7/8”

The AF200’s are considerably less blinged out than the GB200. My 2014 prototype has a plain standard headstock (that GB200 is Beautiful!). Plainer binding, of course WAY plainer tailpiece.
Its sound (with a Fralin Modern PAF) is nicely thunky but still retains some of its smaller body high end. With GB14s its quite nice, first off the wall for me.

OK Guys, the GB200s are beautiful, especially as shown by 2B's photos, so when are we going to hear some sound bites. As I've learned throughout life, you can't always get by on looks alone!

Nice minty looking GB10! That early model should have the slightly lower output pickups = sweeter tone.
It definitely has the high quality birdseye backside of that era.

Since it arrived I've truly fallen in love with the '200. It's a really great playing guitar. I'm shocked they ended this run. But as things go, I guess they had to in order to create a GB300.

I love the GB200 model. Enjoy that bad boy as long as you can.

George also loves the GB200, but according to this video, he couldn't help "dibbling and dabbling" with guitar designs.
That's what brought about the latest GB model, the LGB300. I've yet to try the latest model and have no plans of dropping more coins for it, but Mr. Benson swears by it.
