Has anyone gigged with a Raezer's edge custom mini 6 and/or a New York 8 cab. I am looking for a portable setup and thinking of pairing it with a DV Mark micro jazz amp head. Will the mini 6 be able to hang with a drummer at a reasonable volume? I'm only thinking this because the amps like The Bud and The Blu have 6.5 inch speakers too and hang well. Maybe the micro jazz head isn't powerful enough?

I'd like to hear your thoughts and experiences!

I have a Blu6 and I also have had a Raezer's Edge NY-8 cabinet for many years. Both are quite capabale of doing loud gigs with a drummer, though my preference for those gigs is to use an extension cabinet with the Blu or a bigger cabinet with my Clarus head. I have a Stealth 10 and a Stealth 12 and I find having bigger speakers in a loud gig situation helps ME hear myself better.

But the little guys can do it.

Both the 6 and the 8 can hang with a drummer...a bit tougher for the 6 but it can do it. Easy job for the 8. I used to have the RE6 but moved it along as I had small combos that filled that need. I'd be more worried about that amp head but I hear that others do OK with it.

The RE cabinets like powerful amps. Feed them with 150-200 watts or so and they are happy.

I use two NY8s on loud gigs (well, back when I had gigs). The single cab is loud enough but projection is very directional. Anyway, having two cabs gives me the flexibility of a modular setup for any situation.

I bought a RE custom 6 from a form member. He was using the RE Luna 200 head with it.
The custom is rated at 100 watts @8 ohms. So he had to be careful with 200 watt Luna.
The other 6" "One" cab is rated at 175 watts @ohms.

IMHO I dont think the Custom 6" with DV Mark head (50 watts @ 8 ohms) could be heard over a loud dummer.
The second "amp" definitely will not do it!

I have a Twin 8 made by Rich himself and it was easily loud enough for a 17 piece big band........no issue even with my Polytone baby Tarus at 80watts.

Great, I appreciate all your replies!

General consensus is the mini 6 and the ny8 are definitely usable, but the dv mark not so much. I guess I need to look at more powerful amps!

BTW From my photo I had both DV Mark and Quilter 50 watt heads. I liked both. But I decided to keep the Quilter. Both were great. But my inner Fender clean amp side won out with the Quilter.

6.5" speakers typically have a 91-92 dB sensitivity vs. 98-100 dB from a good 12". This means you need a serious multiple of watts for the same SPL. I've been a happy DV Mark Micro 50 user since their introduction, but for the 6.5" Toob Metros I prefer the TC Electronic BAM 200 amp, which offers a lot of headroom but, alas, doesn't have reverb. The new Quilter SuperBlocks are doing surprisingly well for the stated 25 W tube equivalent output. But only gigging with a drummer will reveal the truth, and there's nothing on my horizon until the summer is over.

Edit: Oops, totally forgot about a jazz camp on the last week of July. Then!

I'm interested in your TOOB speakers. Especially the 12" because of its amazing portability and the fact that you get a 12" speaker that you can carry with two fingers seems amazing!

    Oz,

Have you met NYC guitarist Greg Ruggerio? He's great. Works a lot with Michael Kanan.

He's something of an expert on finding portable amp solutions for gigging in NYC and is worth following and reaching out to.

I haven't met him yet, thanks to covid, but the city is opening up again so I'll try and catch him at his next gig!

Thank you for the heads up about greg.
