Take a set of regular PB roundwounds, install it and do some measurements. Now take a new set of those same strings, and ground them smooth.

I can see why you'd get a somewhat more fundamental sound because of the proportionally heavier core wire, but why would they be quieter?
BTW, did you measure the string gauges? Are the listed gauges the actual ones, or the ones before the polishing process? If the former Magma may have been able to preserve the wrap to core mass ratios and in that case I really don't see why you'd get any difference besides the absence of finger noise.
