    Spotted this unique looking 1980 Gibson Byrdland on Gbase (Kansas City Vintage) and wanted to see if any of you have any insight into its origins.

    I've never seen an F5 Mandolin style headstock on a full sized Gibson archtop before.

    mando style headstock works ok on short scale (23.5) byrdie

    It must have cost the client who ordered it like this a premium but the current price-tag is ridiculous IMHO.... Re the headstock : you can't argue about taste , mine it is NOT. This particular shade of dark cherry is nice though.

    Personally, I think the headstock works very nicely with the curvy tailpiece. I appreciate that the work involved is exponentially greater than the normal one and that is reflected in the price, which is so far beyond my means I'll just confine my appreciation of this extremely nice guitar to admiring it from afar. Really, really afar.

    Well, the headstock is a lot more ornate than the rest of the guitar. However, it's not really any more complicated in appearance than the John D'Angelico broken pediment ones.
