We see for sale on the www, a certain number of guitars that are in CANADA.
Say it's a brand new build that's been completed by a luthier up there, and a
buyer in the southern USA wants to buy it. Say the purchase price is $2,500
American dollars. How much would the total cost be with taxes and whatever
fees, that get forced upon such a transaction? (EXCLUDE shipping please)
Thanks for any info you all can share!

Excluding shipping costs, here are the costs that may or may not be added:

    -state sales tax

-if couriers are used, brokerage fees, unless the shipping includes the brokerage fees (if the post office is used, tthere are no brokerage fees) added to the shipping cost

That's it. There are no other costs or fees. There are no duties, bcause there is a free trade agreement between the US, Canada and Mexico.

Yep, what Hammer said. I've purchased a couple gear items from Canada - no problems, no fees!

I payed customs fees many times going the other way (US to Canada). Whether there will be fee or not is decided at the time of crossing. Postal/courier service initially pays the fee at the border, then you pay it at the time of pickup. Some allow you to pay online. Just recently I payed 50 USD customs fee for a 350 USD used, privately sold Tele neck. Shipment was through USPS/Canada Post.

Exporting or importing items with rosewood parts may complicate the shipping.
