Hi all! New to the group! Great to be here! I’m a long time blues rock guitarist and my number one guitar these days is a 2017 Gibson SG Standard. I’m looking for an es-335 type guitar... one on a budget! My SG has a slim taper neck and that’s what I’m looking for. The Ibanez Expressionist models seem cool: particularly the one
with the ebony body! The zebra body is cool too. Any recommendations at the sub $1000 (Canadian) range? Doesn’t have to be Ibanez. Maybe new? Maybe used. Thanks!!!

I've recently played an ebony Epiphone Sheraton II Pro (about $699.00 from Sweetwater) and was impressed with the guitar. Place it on your roster of "try outs" as you decide on which guitar speaks to you.

In all fairness .. You can't really go wrong with Ibanez in the budget range guitars. By far my favorite builder .. They usually have fairly slim necks, tho a few like the AS153 might be too full for you?

End of the day it's about taste and I personally just prefer the Ibanez offerings over the Epiphones, but ... It's taste

Used D'Angelico EX-DC or EX-SS. You should be able to get one for $8-900 USD (so about $1k Canadian).

I’ve owned an Epiphone Sheraton II in the past which was fantastic but the newer ones I’ve played don’t seem to have the same magic. I owned a Gibson 335 for the last 5 years and just sold it last month to buy two new guitars, a 175 clone and a 335 clone. The 335 style guitar I got is the Ibanez Zebra wood one AS93ZW. It’s fantastic for the price and plays extremely well out of the box.

edit - I should mention it has a more muted tone than the Gibson but I’m looking for that. Nothing beats a real 335 for blues tone. The Ibanez will get you half way there but not there. I don’t play much blues rock anymore and no longer needed the real deal. I love the semi for comfort but my 335 was to rocking sounding and the Ibanez smoother tone was what I needed.

Thanks!! What's the neck like on the Zebra Wood? Chunky? I'm looking for a Gibson Slim-taper type feel.

I’d say the neck is moderate. It’s not chunky but it’s not slim like that. It’s comfortable to me.
