Swapped out a SD Seth Lover for a Bartolini Jazz PBF-55. The Bartolini really sounds great. Very happy.

Could you elaborate please ? What is it that you did not like about the original PU and what is "better" now with the new one ?

My experience with Bartolini pickups are they generally flatter or neutral in response. In a way more Hi Fi type of tone that would work really well with active tone controls.
I could see where for Jazz this might be a more pleasing tone, as opposed to the tone were all use to with Humbuckers or P 90s Also Eastman Archtops are quite scooped sounding acoustically as well.
This because they use thinner carved plates as opposed to Gibson thicker heavier builds. So maybe these pickups are a better match or representation of the acoustic sound of this guitar?

From the Bartolini site: "The PBF-55 and PBF-57 Jazz set brings out a more rounded, softer tone that excels at smoothing out the high register of many guitars." Seems like just the opposite of "Hi-Fi," but who knows?

    Then there's this one:
"Tuck Andress Special Humbucker – 1CTA

High fidelity, clarity, definition and articulation developed with Jazz virtuoso Tuck Andres"

I agree. The Bartolini is flatter in response. I found that, with the Seth Lover, I was EQing out the higher frequencies with a parametric EQ. This worked well, but I think some of the guitar's acoustic qualities were lost as well. I find that with the Bartolini, that acoustic tonality is back. The Bartolini is a great pickup for this guitar. A bit pricey, but worth it.

I can attest to the truthfulness of that statement.
Edit...sorry about the multiple replies....the website is acting strange for me.

I am looking for a more "full-range acoustic-ish" tone from my Eastman AR803. Maybe one of these Bartolinis is the ticket?

I can say, that after 3 days of playing my Eastman with the new pickup, the flatter response brings out more of the guitar's acoustic overtones. It also tames the higher frequencies. It's a fantastic pickup for a hollowbody, especially one that has solid woods. Whether its just the top(mine) or all solid wood construction, it really compliments the guitar.

Sounds like a good score! Congratulations, and play it in good health!

These pickup are really very interesting in archtop or semi hollow guitars.
I use them in a japanese copy of es335 and they totally sublimate thede guitar. In 1979.i have these guutar actually and love her.

Wanna give tjis set to my new ibanez akj95 sure that it could operate well. And sublimate too. Actually standard pickup are harsh in high end and with not enough bass and character. Not enough harmonics and smooth colors.
