Hi all, I’m new to the forum and hope you can help. I’m looking to remove the floating pickup from my Eastman AR605ce but I’m not sure how to detach the wiring from the endpin? Sorry if this is newbie question.

More of a new question than a newbie question. I don't think I have run across this one before. Usually people are asking about how to add a pickup rather than remove it! Since the pickup is a floater and not in contact with the top, in terms of acoustic tone I doubt that you will notice much difference removing it versus leaving it on- unless you play it without a pickguard at all. With the pickguard and no pickup, it'll sound basically like it does now.

Basically, without examining the specific guitar, you would have to pull the end pin out, desolder the leads going to the jack, then put the end pin back in the guitar. Removing the pickguard should take the pickup with it.

Thanks! Yeah it’s more that the pickup and pick guard just get in the way a bit and I’m basically going to use it as an acoustic archtop only. I’ve tried for ages to get that acoustic/electric tone (Jim hall on undercurrent) but it strikes me any acoustic sound is coming from a mic in the room. A lot of the gigs I play there is no P.A so I’m straight into the amp and as soon as you need volume these floating pickups just go all muddy. I think it has to be acoustic or electric although I may experiment with mics...thanks for the help-is the desoldering difficult or can the ends just be cut?

You can just disconnect the wiring at the pickguard and leave the rest inside the guitar. That way it's still available when you decide to replace the pickup. It won't hurt anything inside there, although you might hear it shift around now and then. Cut or desolder, either works. Easy now, harder later/harder now, easier later. Your choice.

Thanks man I didn’t actually think of doing that, seems like a good option to go with 1st.

Cut it as close to the pot as you can, so you have enough if you want to reconnect it.

There are much better floaters to replace it with...
