    Hi
I have the opportunity to purchase a Yamaha AE1200s for 1350GBP in the UK.
I have heard a sound clip of it and it does sound good.
The only other 2HB archtop I have is a '92 Epi Emp Joe Pass.
I suppose I would (may be wrongly) consider it a 175 substitute as that is probably what I would ideally like to have but will probably never own.
Is the price reasonable here in the UK? Would it be a good purchase?
Any advice would be most welcome please.
    TIA

That’s a supreme upgrade over a Epi Joe Pass. Unlike the ES175, the Yamaha has an Ebony fretboard. You couldn’t buy an ES175 for that. Make certain it doesn’t have a cloudy finish, some do some don’t. If it’s in decent shape it would sell for $1500 in the US.

    Thanks 2b
$1500 is about 1150GBP but I think guitars are a little more expensive here in the UK.
I will be able to see it before I buy.
Here is a pic. It doesn't look cloudy. What do you think?
I know we all say it but I think this would be the last upgrade I'll make of this style of instrument!!!
    Cheers
PS the PG has gassed and has been removed but is included.

I bought a blonde AE1200S in 2013 in terrific shape for around $1,100 USD (plus the $250 I paid to replace the gassed pick guard). It is really a terrific jazz guitar, well made, comfortable neck.

These guitars have some age to them so you really need to check the condition before you buy. I understand that some of these guitars were manufactured in Japan while others were made in Taiwan. Not sure if there is a quality difference. When purchased new, the guitar came with two bridges: a tune-o-matic and a wooden one. It also has a coil tap feature.

Here's an old thread from the Forum that may help you out.

    Thanks all.
Still in a dilemma. Offer price ends in a couple of hours. I think it's possibly still a little expensive but it's an opportunity I may regret not going for.

It looks in good shape. But the area beneath that out gassed pick guard will likely be darker than the rest of the guitar.

    Thanks
Yes Ive seen pics of others without pg like that.
Im beginning to realise 25 1/2" gtrs are a struggle for my arthritic hands nowadays.
Im still deliberating over it but if it goes it goes.
    I'll try to save for a 175!!
