A Flatwound String Comparison: Thomastik Infeld ($30) vs. D'Addario Chromes ($15)

Just ordered some chromes in gauges that match the thomastik Benson 12 set. As close as I could come which is very close. The tension chart from each string company show the Chromes at equal gauging is a bit less. Putting them on a Benson guitar which had them on when I got it and I liked how it sounded. They felt stiffer to me and that's a no no in my book. So when my thomastiks go dead I'll do my test and report back.

Yes, the other TI gauges are smaller than what most other manufacturers provide as standard. It seems they're trying for balanced tension across the fretboard, whereas most others have the D and G tensions much higher than the other strings, and those strings seem to influence the perceived overall tension more than the others. Some prefer balanced tension, some don't.
