Well thanks to you enablers in the farlow appreciation thread and DB's posts, and seeing the right post at the right time,
today I reveived this 2001 gibson tal farlow. I was a bit anxious as it was hardly played (not always a good sign) and it took very long to ship.
but it's an amazing guitar and all I could wish for. Was never a fan of winered guitars but it's starting to grow on me.
The flame really pops out when in the sun (and only then).

Wow, congratulations. Play it like you own it - which you do!
-
Beautiful. May she inspire your playing for many years to come.

That Guitar design looks great in all Colors.
You got a real Beauty there. I've had one in VSB that was very special to me, but I had to sell it. And I miss it alot.
They are really great guitars. Outstanding.

Excellent archtop and beautifully photographed.

That guitar surely gets the job done! Congratulations!!

I think that color looks great on your new Tal. Congratulations, and play it in good health!

Wine red looks great on a Tal. It’s beautiful. Enjoy.

Gorgeous guitar. Congrats and enjoy! I’ve been playing my Tal Farlow this morning through various amps. It sounds great through all of them. All the best to you on your new guitar day!

That's a guitar that looks great in wine red.

*Cough* *Cough* Wine Red is the cheap finish. *Cough*
Just messing with ya! That is an absolutely beautiful Tal Farlow, a Gibson model I never got to know. Still hope to get one in that new "Viceroy Brown" someday...

Thank you all for the nice comments (except jabberwocky
haha I understand, i wasnt a big fan either but this guitar was such a great deal that i couldn't pass it. I figured if i really couldn't live with it I could have it refinished in any color i want and still it would have been a great deal)
Was great waking up this morning and see this guitar here.
My 4 year old daughter called it the "piglet" because of the colour and the curl haha.
This guitar is perfect for me, could as well be my only guitar, altough i'm not sure you can say that after 1 day.
To my surprise it's more comfortable to play on my lap then my es-175.
I expected it to be harder because of the bigger body size,
but my right arm sits on a better spot. Maybe it's the difference in depth.
Will be hard to get some work done today with this guitar sitting next to me.Last edited by waltf; 08-18-2020 at 08:37 AM.

Congrats on your NGD!
The red looks great on figured woods so just ignore those wise guys.

Tal Farlow’s are great guitars. I once had an original ‘63 Tal, with paf’s. I should have kept that one. It was in mint condition and sounded amazing. I noticed an ad for recent Tal Farlow for sale locally in Ontario Canada. If anyone around here is looking for one, I just posted a PSA in the for sale section.

Wine red is the finest red. I had a wine red D'A NYL-2 and I could swear the ladies paid more attention to it than any other guitar I've had. Very annoying, of course.

You must be Keith Murch! I bought my 1998 Tal Farlow from Murch Music in Canada 16 years ago. Probably from your brother Glenn? I bought it from a picture I saw on the website of Murch Music ... It was the exact finish I wanted, Viceroy Brown. Never played or saw it for real and it had to be shipped to Europe in the middle of winter... Pretty scary for me at the time but it all worked out just fine. Still have it and it's a guitar I will never part with.

Floatingpickup is KM. You got it. He can make an archtop sing, and his family is responsible for selling lots of Polytone amps.

Yes, that’s me. I remember when you bought your Tal from my brother. I played it in the store when it first came in and it was a beauty. I have followed your blog and watched your videos. You make the Tal sound great. Thanks for reaching out.

Thanks for the compliment Greentone. We love archtops in my family. I never actually worked in the store, but I hung around there a lot when my brother owned it. We were big fans of Polytone amps ever since Joe Pass and many others starting using them back in the day. When my brother became a Polytone dealer, I bought one from the first batch that came in and I used that amp for a long time. Glenn put copies of polytone schematics up on the website, and a lot of people were able to access them. Unfortunately, Polytone was not the easiest company to deal with. Glenn told me he had to prepay when he ordered them and wait, sometimes a very long time, before they shipped. He felt it was worth the inconvenience though because they were great amps and no one else really sold them in our area. Too bad they didn’t have any sort of succession plan after Tommy.
