    just master volume , which is a great shame cos that would have been ideal

    The earlier 250W versions do have a gain channel with plenty of room for tweaking. I sold my 250M to a young shredder who powers his pair of TOOB 12R's with it. It was just too much for our demo purposes. The overdrive of the 250M is pretty "rectifiery", or coarse-tooth, while the blue model is more civilized in this respect.

    There's those who maintain that SS is no match to tubes/valves when it comes to crunch. In solitude yes, perhaps. But I always stress that differences get diluted in a band setting. Tube amps have not seen any substantial development in decades. The recently re-introduced Magnatones, for example, sound grand but they break your back - and bank. Just think how much progress SS has made in the meantime.
