I used to have a PM2, which liked, but sold it when I was looking for an acoustic model, but now I'm contemplating one of the upper-range models, if I can find them second hand.
Wondering what the general opinion is about the various models. I don't mind the odd-shaped one...

They both look great. I suppose having two is an eminently sensible idea! None for sale at that price at the moment, I'm afraid. I suppose people don't want to sell them, which speaks volumes.

Get the Slaman model instead.

Where? When? Who? How much?

Hi Rob, there's an amber PM2 in Slovenian Reverb at the moment - no import duties until Brexit...
Ibanez PM2-AA 2019 Amber | Ultra Montem Shop | Reverb
I've played a couple of PM200's and really liked them, but at that pricepoint I would go for an ES 175.....
Hope this helps

Thanks, Ray, but I'm not looking for the PM2 - more interested in the 100, 120, 200. Cheers.

Ok Rob, here's a 2008 PM120 in Zagreb

Thanks, but too expensive. That's the price for New. I could only afford one second hand. But thanks for going to the trouble of finding and sharing the link.

You forgot to add, "were it to happen".

"Brexit" as such, AFAIK, is actually some way off being a fait accompli. Europe is much more than just a matter of taxes and single markets etc. C'est-à-dire pour moi. One's heart is heavy.

Sorry, I have never played a Japanese PM model. Very happy with my PM2.

Jerzy, that looks perfect, and a decent price. Unfortunately, I just spent all my money on a used Leica camera! The guitar will have to wait a while...But thanks for finding me the link!

Sorry, I can't help this. Probably everybody knows this, but here goes.
The PM model was patterned after Howard Roberts' pre-war, heavily modified "black guitar." Howard Roberts, like everyone in his generation, was deeply influenced by Charlie Christian and played a Gibson ES-150 built before WWII. Roberts customized the heck out of his and used it in the 50s on a great variety of gigs, recordings, etc. Other than the black finish he applied to the guitar, the chief characteristic of Roberts' 150 was the unusual set of cutaways that he came up with. Look familiar? (The PM obviously has a sharp lower cutaway, but...)

I think the Pat Metheny guitars are pretty neat instruments.
-
I had no idea about that, Greentone. Thanks for the info.
So, "homage" or ripoff?
-
I don't think it's a ripoff. The ES-150, by the way, originally belonged to Herb Ellis, and was acquired by Roberts from Ellis. It is shallower than the standard 150 (Roberts had the back removed, sides trimmed, and a new (laminated) back installed. He also had the cutaways installed so that the body/neck join at the 17th not the 14th fret.
I suspect that when Metheny was spec-ing his guitar with Ibanez, he described the "black guitar" to Ibanez. Ripoff? Perhaps, but I'd think of it as a canny tip of the hat to an incredible artist.
