Getting interested in the Quilter 200W combo with the single 8" speaker. I'm using an Evans RE200 right now but am not completely satisfied with the tone as it's not close enough to Fender. Does anyone on here use the 8" Quilter and, if so, are you happy with the tone you're getting? I tried a couple of the small 101 heads and didn't care for them but I hear great reports about the combo amps. Not playing out all that much any more so don't need anything huge - thought the 8 would be a good bet for home and small venues What say you?

I bought an 8" Aviator and ended up sending it back. I couldn't get a sound a really liked out of it. It had the same mid-range honk as the 101 and I couldn't dial it out.

Skip, have you tried the Henriksen Bud/Blu?

There's also the Mambo 8 (I like the wedge version) though for you living in US it's more hassle to get one as you have to import it yourself from Jon in UK or search a second hand sample (and there's not that many of them).

The right choice! I’ve dv Mark little jazz, ideal for combo with its 8” speaker.

The Little Jazz is a great amp, I love mine, but it does not sound like a Fender. That's one of the main reasons I like it. The Quilters I've tried, heads only, are definitely an attempt at a Fender sound. That's why I sent the Quilters back or sold them.

I'm going to sell it--I've had it for a few months and just can't get the jazz tone I'm looking for. It is either too boomy or too thin sounding depending on the settings--and I've tried them all.
I do think it would be an awesome blues or rock amp--has that "fender chime" sound.
i also have the DV Mark Little Jazz and love it—very close in sound to the Polytone Megabrute ii.Last edited by bjazzy; 04-16-2019 at 12:14 AM.

I'm liking my LJ more and more. I played a 19 piece big band gig today with it and it worked fine. Then, in the evening I played a sextet rehearsal. Again worked fine. The key is that I can completely forget about the amp while I'm playing.

I did A/B the LJ with a vintage Ampeg Reverberocket. It may not make any sense, but they didn't sound all that different. Certainly not identical -- the LJ seemed a little cleaner than my Ampeg. I can't swear that the Ampeg is as good as new, although it was serviced recently.
Changing the settings on either amp made a lot more difference than switching amps. My wife couldn't tell which was which, and she has a pretty good ear. I was adding reverb with a pedal board for each, but I also used some of each amp's reverb.

I actually have the Little Jazz, a Fender Princeton Reverb Reissue, and several Polytones. I might try a side-by-side just for fun.

I'm a newcomer to the PRRI but so far I really love it. It has become my default amp. But the DVMLJ is easily my solid-state favorite. Beating out my Polytone BabyBrute was not easy, but the DVMLJ just has the feature set, the power, the tone, and the portability that is unbeatable.

+1 for the Mambo 8" Wedge
I purchased one a couple of weeks ago on the advice of forum members
Absolutely incredible
