I was fortunate to get to try one today and I was disappointed to find an annoying noise from the reverb. My Polytone will make some noise if driven hard but this "noise " was very noticeable in quiet passages.

I couldn't live with it... It's nice to be able to try an amp out in person b4 plunking down the buckazoids.

With so many happy users I have to believe this one was not typical?

Some notice it, some don’t for some reason. It disappointed me too. But I let it slide, because 1) Returns would be too much hassle where I am, and 2) it can be dialled out, using the Reverb tone controls, for lone practice situations. And when in a real playing situation, it isn’t perceived. Personally I think Reverb in a jazz guitar sound should be kept at minimum anyway, and used in this way the amp delivers.

Thinking on it now, It’s like the tremolo pulsing hiss of my DRRI, i know it is there, and it’s noticeable when I’m practicing. But it can be switched off with the foot switch, and when playing in a live situation it’s not perceived. Both amps are great despite their quirks.

Been using a Gen-1 MP12 for several years now. I never noticed it, so I just went to give it a listen up close in silence. Playing around with it, I noticed there are other factors that contribute to the hiss, such as gain & vol levels. But in general mine is silent until around 1:00, and even then barely noticeable. At 4:00, yes it's there, but still low enough that it wouldn't be heard once music is coming out of the amp. And keep in mind, anything over 1:00 is a lot of reverb.

I don't know the MicroPro 2, maybe you mean MicroPro 200 which I have. No noticable noise from the Reverb until about 3 or 4 o'clock, I set mine around 9 or 10 o'clock if I'm using it and it is silent.

Maybe he means MP *Mach II*, the 2nd-Gen. version.

Ditto on all the above here as well.

It was the Quilter MicroPro Mach 2. The sound wasn't a hum or hiss, I've nevee heard anything quite like it.

How high did you set the reverb, gain, and vol? One or two of them must have been turned awfully high.

Actually, none were high in the least, I'd say it was at or below a few watts and minimal reverb. For sure it was the reverb as without it, the head was dead quiet at all volume levels.

With the Reverb on it was pretty noticeable on quiet passages. I have heard hum, crackle, static, scratchy pots, microphonics, jet airliners going by, nothing like this sound... it was odd.

Something must be broke. Just like my gear account after pricing a 2nd Quilter amp to leave at home. Must be a sign of a good amp - very few available on the used market at a nice price.

Was it a black amp or a brown amp? The MicroPro 200 (brown) is discontinued. It has been superseded by the MicroPro Mach 2 (black). Whatever the case may be, I thought this may help to isolate the problem. Here's the trouble-shoot pages from my MicroPro 200 manual. Do any of these descriptions match your experience?
