This arrived a couple days ago... has the 12" Cannabis Rex speaker and lacquered tweed finish... but I am definitely impressed. This amp is a sweetheart.
Tried it out with my 2016 ES175:

Congrats. I got the same last year. Love it. I've been playing it more than my 5e3 which I didn't think would be possible.
-
I bought the same amp about a year ago. LOVE IT!
I did change out the speaker to a Weber. The CR sounded like a blanket was over the amp. Sounded muted to me. Also swapped out the Fender GTs for a set of JJs.
-
I love the C Rex but it has a unique EQ. It works with my gear but I can see how it wouldn’t work for everybody.
I did change v1 to a RCA 5751.

Welcome to the cult of the Princeton

Sombody just bumped up their tube amp game big time !!!!
Happy New Amp Day !!

Congrats Lawson! Looking forward to hearing it more in future videos.

Good call going into input #2. Which store / website did you use?

Cool looking version of a Princeton - Happy New Amp Day!

This is a limit edition model through Sweetwater. Love the tweed tolex also. Big winner all around!
-
Sweetwater. I am not certain, but I think the lacquered tweed + 12" Cannabis Rex speaker is an exclusive with them. Could be mistaken. I have played tons of amps with 10" speakers and am a fan, but I dearly love this 12" speaker and that was one thing I wanted.

The Monoprice still out-performs its price bracket, that's for sure. My Princeton is a "tweed" solely in cosmetics. Inside it's a 65 Princeton Reverb Re-Issue with a 12" speaker.

I still think the Monoprice is an excellent amp for the price, and at a bit more even, would still be a great deal. I'm not getting rid of it. All the same, this Fender really is sweet. I really have to turn it up to get break-up, which I like, but it's got the warm sound I wanted.

There are plenty of online protocols for using Variacs or other low-frequency sources. Almost all of them conclude with, "Doing this almost correctly will cook your speaker."
Lawson, if you commit to the CR12 for a year, I bet that a year later you will hang on to the Cani Rex!

I'm delighted with the amp already. After I've played it I might try a tube swap but I actually think the speaker is going to be fine. I like what I'm hearing right now. I also spent a ton of money (to me) on this amp... I'm not going to start throwing even more money at it unless I know exactly why, especially when at this point, I"m totally happy with it. Naturally "better" is always possible, but first I want to really get what it can do stock in my ears so I'll know what "better" would mean.

That looks and sounds like a worthy addition to your home. I’ve been playing the 2016 175 through a Peavey Classic 30 with the C.Rex and a 5751 more than the Katana lately. Your 2016 175 through that Princeton makes me realize that further improvement in my tone is in my fingers.

Looks great but IMHO overpriced compared with the other limited editions

I would constantly worry about that wood getting dinged up. But then that might add to the look. I guess I am a tolex fan.

Fair enough.

Agree on all being overpriced but that's where we are in terms of paying extra for the Fender badge.

Go get em Lawson!
Great playing. And a Princeton, in TWEED! Man that is hard to beat.
Thats a dream setup you got there buddy. You deserve it.
Thanks for the special treat buddy.
