I just put a set of .13 flatwounds on my comins... and for so many years, it's the same thing... for a few days i'm just loving the mellowness and the feel, but after a week or so, i really miss the attack and highs the rounds give me... the obvious answer is that i need another jazz guitar so i can have both... but i don't know why i always seem to love it then get tired of them in a matter of days

I am exactly the same way. I’m sure if I really put my thinking cap on I would come up with something about missing the lush harmonic overtones and exciting attack, but if you’d heard me play you’d know that was BS!
I love the feel but find it boring almost after a while. Ear fatigue?
I *love* the tuning stability of flats though. When I used to have a couple of guitars, all set up differently, it was always nice to pick up one which had either flats or tapewound strings as I never had to retune them!

I guess that in your case, I'd look for a nice Squier Vintage or MIM Tele and put the flats on that.

    Try Halfwounds

Happens all the time with lots of different things. We get something new, it's exciting and different; then we get used to it and the difference and exciting-ness wears off. It can get expensive if we're constantly chasing new things to feel that excitement versus deepening our appreciation for the things we already have.

i tried halfwounds once, wasn't a fan at all...
i'm not sure if flats would give me what i want out of a tele, but hey, i could have two telecasters

I feel you. I specifically got a guitar for flatwounds... and guess what, it's got rounds on it now! Haha.

what guitar would that be? i'm ready to try .12s on my tele, but flats will make it wrong somehow, a tele is about mean, nasty intensity, could it also be smooth and mellow???? maybe i'll try flats before i put a humbucker in the neck

Just put flats on my tele. Feels very nice, sounds very different than 9 low-tension rock strings.

To go above 10's on it would require nut work though.

That happens to me with Martin Marquis strings on my acoustic, 4 or 5 hours or pure bliss and then the bliss starts to fade. But wow they sound great when they are new

I do the same thing.... but the other way round - I always use TI Jazz Swings, but I sometimes I switch to John Pearse "archtop" pure nickel rounds. They stay on for about a week or so and then I get sick of the finger squeak....

The problem I have with Flat wound is I cant get a 18 G , I have Been looking and the only wound 18 is in round Nickel, Even the Half Rounds don't do 18 wound, so I whent and ordered a set of nickel wound 10 with a 18 wound and a set of nickel half rounds 10 and will see what happens using the two together. I am Looking to find some place that sells single wound 18 's because I know they wear out fast. any one Got a source for single wound 18 strings Help me out

    This set has a G .018W, they're a little pricey though.
Dogal R39 Nightclub Chrome Flatwound Acoustic Guitar Strings 11-44
    Chrome Flat Wound - .011, .014, .018w, .024, .032, .044 - Medium Tension
The Dogal website lists individual strings,
I do not know the cost or difficulty in getting them from Italy.
    Nightclub extraflat - Dogal
the .018w is one of them.
    R393
    SOL-G 018 Chrome Metal

I recently found the Nightclub V25 Bronze Flat Wounds on sale,
and I'm trying them on my flat top acoustic.
They are really great, the best flat wounds I've found so far.
I'd like to continue using them but for me they are usually too pricey.
I'll have to wait for another sale.

Down to one main electric now, so no need! My wife and kids prefer me to keep tuning up. Gives them a break from my playing.

I just put Flat Wound strings on my L5 CES. They used to be on there, but I switched to round wounds when I wanted t play BLUES on it. It was great but not for jazz so much, too lively!
So I found some Pyramid Flats I had and decided to try them after playing my teacher's J Smith which was very smooth an rich sounding. Great for JAZZ, and I believe these guitars are best with flats. IMHO. If you want classic tones, and the Wes sound!
I have other guitars for blues and round wounds.
