    I'm looking for a lighter amp with a better sound, the cube just doesn't cut it for me.

    how does the katana sound compared to the DV mark? i guess i should just go for DV mark 12 or quilter 101+cab?

    the littlejazz would be perfect, but i don't see it doing well in a loud fusion or big band setting

    I just bought a Fender Pro Jr IV and am pretty amazed. 22lbs, pretty loud, very nice clean tone for jazz, and breaks up beautifully with volume cranked. But then I prefer tubes to solid state and/or digital modelers.

    i need LOTS of clean volume, so i don't think that would suit me

    Wait for the new BOSS Nextone Artist. 80W. The demos are BF clean and Fender shimmery and have got my attention. $699 MAP in the USA. Should be about the equivalent in Euros in Europe. Weight is about 36 pounds or 17Kg.

    I am also interested in the DV Mark 12 for its strictly nice warm jazzy clean tone.

    If you require any louder than that and lighter weight, you may just have to plug into a modeller pedalboard like the Headrush Gigboard and then plug into the PA or FRFR speaker.

    Just my thoughts.

    I play in 2 big bands with my little jazz with no problems. Trumpet players have even commented on how much sound comes out of that little bitty amp.

    Upgrade this to a 12” solid cabinet with a 12”speaker and it will really blow you away. I did that to mine with a cabinet from Mojotone, along with their Greyhound speaker (80 w, I believe). After the transformation it really opened up, and was noticeably louder with improved clean headroom. Alas, I sold it to help fund my Guild American Patriarch guitars. You win some, you lose some. I suspect I will get another PJ one day and make those same changes.

    edit: and these mods did little to nothing to the overall weight of the amp.

    The Katana sounds a lot brighter to my ears. I have a DV Jazz 12 (and a micro 50 head) and got rid of all other amps. I'm not big on the bell-like fender cleans, though, so I'm sort of leaning towards the tones you get from the DV mark anyway. The jazz 12 is a classic transistor sound to me, think joe pass @ baltica 92 etc. I use it to get tones in this area (although less reverb & delay, and I don't roll my tone off as much)

    Isn't it possible for you to try these amps in person? it's much better if you find out yourself what you want, instead of a bunch of strangers online telling you what you "should" like...

    the little jazz, by the way, is pretty loud - but it doesn't take overdrive pedals as nicely as its bigger sibling imo. if you're doing overdrive fusion stuff, i'd get the 12 anyway.
    I played mine set to about 10 o clock to be loud enough for this church:


    ...and it's been loud enough to be my only amp in many different indie, pop and rock projects where I pretty much never play clean, the drummer plays a big kit loudly, and the keys are plentiful. I've never heard this amp's max volume.
    my dad uses his in the house band at a local blues club which deals exclusively in amateur blues rock. trust me, it's loud

    Gisle Torvik is a wonderful player with beautiful tone. He's a great roll model.

    Yeah, I think so too. A very fun person and good teacher, and doesn't play like he's got anything to prove. After I heard him, my preference in jazz guitar tone and phrasing really shifted. Inspiring player.

    Are you studying with him?

    I've had him as a substitute teacher in a subject whose english name escapes me, but it concerns ear training, sight reading, and theory. No guitar, though..!

    e: is "teacher" the proper terminology in universtity college?

    Maybe "lecturer" or "instructor" but "teacher" is close enough. You're fortunate to be learning from a fine musician like that.
