The incredible variety of fretwire these days makes the handwringing seem unnecessary.
When I started out it was hard to get narrow but tall fretwire. Now it is easy.
So I can get a stealth vintage look with taller frets if that works for someone.
Same idea for a nylon string. You can keep the classical look but get cross-over jazz playability with narrower but tall fretwire.
Good times.

I have paid for refrets on instruments from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. I buy guitars because I want to play them. I have never regretted refretting or refinishing or otherwise restoring an instrument. I have, however, regretted selling a guitar. Every time.
