    The ideal thing would have been to try the Pure Nickels straight after the flats, as then you would have noticed any gain in liveliness more acutely. I once went from flats to half-rounds and thought, wow, these feel just like rounds. Conversely, when I recently swapped from rounds to half-rounds, they felt a lot like flats. Go figure.

    If you tend towrds bright, the D'Addario NYXLs may give you an extra 5% "something" but if you get on well with the EJ21s, I'd stick with them. They're just a bit too lively on my main guitar.

    What is their advantage? Do they have less tension than an equivalent gauge set?
