    one of the greats tho

if you visited bay area, you could go to him and "buy" a (then) cheapo guitar and when you were leaving you could return it for your full money...free rental!! that was his policy!!

he's the best! legendary guitar character..and knowledgeable as anyone

    cheers
Spot on. He gradually lost weight. And as far buying something off him, I felt like I had to give a kidney to buy a J-45 off of him once. It wasn't even unreasonably priced. He just didn't want to part with it. You guys have given me the urge to go over there this weekend or the next.

As far as getting the pick up fixed I would go to SF Guitarworks over the other places that were mentioned and I have dealt with both for various things over the years.

I love the exterior decor of that store, my kind of place and the owner sounds a great character. We used to have a guitar store in Portsmouth (UK) and the guy who owned it used to get some great walk-in gear. One of the more successful UK bands tried to buy a couple of vintage amps from him, but he insisted they could only have one of them, and wouldn't budge.

Vintage Estate Sale - Fat Dawg's New Bloggy

Funny thing, I didn't see that there. I know their website is pretty out-of-date. I'd be surprised if much from that estate sale remains. However, Fatty is still pulling stuff out of the archives and posting them on Reverb. He's got a lot of weird forgotten guitars. He showed me this National 175, which was built with a Gibson ES 175 body. Interesting guitar but absolutely hideous.

having a conversation with fatty as he follows you down the quiet tree lined block to your car is a beautiful thing!
