On my Strats I used to turn all the pups 180 degrees so that the short polepieces were under the low E and A. Some routing-out of the body may be needed and will affect resale value. IIRC, I picked this up from a Jerry Donahue interview. He referenced Hendrix, which was good enough for me.

I like D'Addario strings a lot. I use them pretty exclusively for roundwounds. Usually EXL115.
