I have tried several aftermarket necks. I like Warmoth necks best.

Anyone try these? Or have any thoughts..

To be honest, I'm on the fence now with replacing the neck. I don't really know what to expect.. and for the price, I'm looking at Squiers now hah.

I have a 21 fret, natural finish tele one I got a while back - it will form part of a parts build when I get around to it. I have to say it wasn't perfect as received - in particular, the truss access hole was cut noticeably off-centre, and such that it was hard to get an hex key in to adjust things. I very nearly sent this neck back for a refund, but (perhaps unwisely) kept it, and have managed to fix both the aesthetic appearance and function of the truss access by careful, and time consuming, work with a bit of rolled sandpaper. It is a nice neck other than the issues, with well done fretwork and finish, well done skunk stripe, and attractive flame on the maple (not pictured, but I'm not complaining about that) - I guess why I kept it in the end.

But this was the second neck I got from Northwest Guitars, having actually sent the first one I got from them back. As I recall, that one had both the dark wood insert and truss access hole positioned way off-centre, and also some indentation marks on one spot on the back of the neck. Again, otherwise, pretty nice quality, so a real shame. The company were fine about replacing that neck, and indeed would have refunded me for the second neck if I hadn't decided to keep it - but it all does rather put me off using them in the future. I did kind of get the impression they thought I was a bit of a fussy customer, just from our email communications, which annoyed me somewhat. Anyhow, maybe I was just unlucky, maybe not - I can say that without the specific issues I mention, the necks would be very good value for money.

Thanks Meggy, that's great to hear. I knew holding off on ordering that was probably a good idea.

Dave Walsh of Eternal Guitars near Chichester builds great necks however you want them. I have two of his tele type guitars (my avatar) and another neck he built, maple with ebony board, 25" scale, 45mm (just over 1 3/4") nut, and 12" radius on f/board for a tele body I had. I sold all my Fenders, and have no gas for more (5 years now).

No worries - a shame in a way if I've put you off, but I am just honestly reporting my experience, and I can't blame. Really, my lasting impression with the necks from Northwest is summarized by "a shame" - the ship was spoiled for the sake of a ha'porth of tar, so near, and yet... If they kept better stocks (they never seem to have much in) and if the necks were all like the pictures, they would be a no-brainer place to go to.

Really though, no fretwork or nut setup?
Yeah, seriously. I wouldn't mind having the fret ends rounded over a bit, but it played great once I got everything set up.

I really like the compound radius (standard on Warmoth necks, but you can get single radius as well).

Loving the boatneck profile. It's unlike anything I've played before, but it's awesome. Sits in my hand just right.

+1 on the beauty of the boatneck profile on Warmoth necks.
has any of you have tried the fatneck profile?
It is supposedly similar but rounder, which I like.
