I live in Tokyo and I rarely see used Seventy Sevens in stores. I have seen new models at the Yamaha store in Ginza and a few in Ochanomizu but they are not everywhere. All the guitars talked about seem to be very nice instruments in their own right. The one company that I have really been impressed with is the Momose brand which is also under the Deviser umbrella. These guitars are just beautiful and I also enjoy the simpler Gibson style headstock compared to some others that are a little more ornate on their 335 style guitars. I also like the Archtop Tribute brand as their dog ears lean towards the 64 model 335 which I prefer, but unfortunately, they won’t build a custom model as I’m looking to pick up a 335 style guitar with a single neck pickup.

Seventy Seven would more than likely build one to your specs. PM me with the specs you want and Ill see about the build time and price. Bob

@TopoftheArch. That's a kind offer! But it's a long time since I've had the luxury of trying a guitar before I buy it, so I'm looking forward to getting hands on on my Japan trip.
By the way, some websites are advertising 77s as hand made. Can this really be true?
-
Yes, they are hand made! Quite the guitar if you dont need the big name on the peghead! Bob
-
Bob, are they flexible on the neck thickness?

I'm an endorser for seventy seven so I discussed a custom neck profile with Eiichi Yamamoto (the importer) and he in turn discussed with deviser and the answer was this:
"Yes, they will customize and make a slimmer neck but they believe the fatter neck is part and parcel to not only their sound but also their neck reliability and so they will only go so far. IOW, you can have it slimmer but it will still be a fat neck by Ibanez standards".
-
Hi RonD, it depends on just how thin you want to go,just give me the measurements and Ill see what they say. The last order for a thinner neck profile came in and it was noticeably thinner than the standard neck size but still not slim by any standards. A custom build is usually a 5 to 6 month wait for delivery. Bob

I know you're talking about neck size in general. The Edwards is marginally chunkier than my vintage GB10, but really less chunky than the Les Paul I grew up on.

I recently acquired a mint Albatross Jazz...all I can say is it is ABSOLUTELY the best semi hollow guitar I have ever played including very nice guitars from Yamaha, Gibson, Heritage .... and my semi hollow Artinger which is now gone. The build is sensational. The pickups are fantastic....I can't even look at another semi hollow...my search is OVER and OUT!....and ALL FOR LESS THAN $900!!!!!!!!! It really is that good! Covers everything.....If you can get one...do so!

OMG!!! What guitar is that, whose guitar is that? Looks amazing. Is it a Seventy Seven?
-
Seventy Seven will make you one if you like! Bob

Hi all, sorry if this is a silly question, but does anyone know how the Exrubato Standard looks like in cherry red? Basically I'd like to be able to see the grain of the maple, and not just a solid red colour.
Also, seeing that customisation is possible, is it also possible to get coil tap for both pickups for the standard model?
Thinking of pre-ordering one soon, but it'd only be done at the end of the year!
-
The cherry red is like Gibsons , you can see the grain . They dont do coil taps, for whatever reason. Bob

from: EXRUBATO-CUSTOM | 株式会社ディバイザー
I'm also inquiring about coil taps through Eiichi Yamamoto
-
Sure hope coil tap becomes an option!
That trans red finish looks great on the Custom, but I prefer the more plain appointments on the Standard... plus the Custom is quite a bit more pricey.
-
-
I asked about coil tapping, and while it is doable (with an upcharge), their pickups have low output so Sho Hara advises against it.
-
Wow these seem like amazing value
-
do it with coil combinations instead of just dual/single coil. That way you won't lose output

I'm thinking minimal to none but the maple looks REALLY good.
-
One thing to know is that the jazz model has no block. It's a full hollow.
so yes, there's a fairly big difference in tone. I had a couple of their 175 style hawks for a while, one was spruce and the other was maple and there was a pretty big difference in tone though some of that might have been the maple/ebony neck vs the mahogany/rosewood.
I also want to see if I can get the middle position to be the two inside coils in series to give a more airy sound for funk stuff...
-
Standard is almost like regular Gibson 335.

Thanks to Bob (see "Top of the Arch!" in this thread), I just took delivery of a Jazz Hawk yesterday and am absolutely floored by this instrument.
Workmanship, looks, sound, playability ... a "10" in every category. I stopped noticing the full neck carve in about five minutes. Under no circumstances will I be replacing these pickups.
I'm a 40-year-plus recreational player with a house and two offices full of Fender, Gibson, and PRS guitars, among others. To me, the Jazz Hawk sounds fuller and sweeter than any of them; I can see why there's never a discouraging word about this brand on the Internet.
Highly customizable, and is the price ever right!
Recognition goes to Bob for peerlessly attentive customer service: patient guidance on choosing among the many special-order possibilities, updates every few weeks throughout the build process, and even in-person delivery to my local music store.
Before I stumbled across the Jazz Hawk, I was bracing myself to drop three to four times as much on a Gibson Byrdland, without any of the modification options that Deviser makes possible up front.
I'm SO glad I took a chance on the Jazz Hawk. Thanks, Bob!
Feel free to PM me for details if you like ...

Do they make these guitars with longer scales? ex. 25 or 25.5
-
I wouldn't be surprised if they made a Tal Farlowesque longer scale neck; Bob (TopOfTheArch!) would know. I'll attach pictures here as requested ...
Regards,
Eric
