Absolutely go for the Vintage with V30. I had both and sold the cheap one still using the Vintage. Huge difference.

BTW The Vintage is plywood, the other one MDF (particleboard).

I've been pretty clear about my admiration for the DV Mark Jazz series but I would add the condition that I consider them to have a pretty specialized sound. That sound just happens to work for me (and several of the players on this forum but most of us are using the amp for a pretty limited tonal spectrum). I'm not really a believer in one amp for all circumstances, especially one as narrowly focused as the DV Mark Jazz series. I doubt if they would be my first choice for a fusion band, regardless of how loud they got. It doesn't matter if you can cut through a loud drummer if your tone is wrong.

    Very good point Jim.

I have a Peavey Bandit red stripe for loud fusion gigs and a DV Mark micro50 (with the aforementioned cabinet). Two totally different sounds.

[Edit] BTW as a note to OP... a used Peavey Bandit Red Stripe could be your solution. Look them up on Youtube.

Thx for the info, i'll get the V30 cabinet in that case.

but the problem is that the Quilter 101 is 100w which is too much for that cab, however i can pick up a DV mark micro 50 for 200 bucks so i'll have the total setup for a bit more than the cost of the littlejazz would be. (i bet the littlejazz won't cut it volumewise for my gig)

but i'm still wondering if the DV mark micro 50 + 12" speaker will be loud enough for me, sometimes we like to go loud! and i kick in the distortion when the tune calls for it (yes not really traditional i know hehe).

my roland cube 80GX had loads of volume left, i never had to turn it up even halfway, but i don't like the sound, too cold and compressed

OH and to clarify: i'm talking about the standard 2 channel DV mark micro 50 here, it's on sale as a B-stock item with almost 30% off

edit: now that i think of it, the micro 50 + 12" would be basically the same as having the DV mark jazz 12 combo, but the combo would be a great deal lighter, so i'll probably be better off with that, it's a shame it's not really gig-tested volume wise like the polytone

I have the Micro50 "regular" head and the Quilter 12" cabinet, an improvised 10" cabinet, and a "lunch box" 6" cabinet that I play it through. I like them all. For loudness, remember you can go for a 4 Ohm speaker, and that will definitely give you more loudness. Their specs say the amp develops 50W though 8 Ohms, 60W through 4 Ohms. In my experience, you can hear that difference. I got an old Marshal mini-stack speaker cabinet and put a 100W 4 ohm speaker in it, and it's a light, loud, clean sound with the DV Mark Micro50. I play only jazz, btw, no overdriven stuff or distortion, so I can't speak to that part of the puzzle.

    No, it's 8 ohm: DV MARK | Products | DV JAZZ 12

No, but if you design your own cabinet with a 4 Ohm speaker, their specs say you get more power. It's odd because they'll say minimum of 8 Ohms, but then give the specs for what a 4 Ohm speaker delivers with that amp. I am not sure why that is put that way. I play mine through a 4 ohm speaker and like the results. Some say that part of the very distinct tone of the Polytone amps is the use of a 4 ohm, sometimes a 3 ohm, speaker.

flush, can you change the speaker in the 80GX to something else like an Eminence EM12 or EM12N Neodymium?

that's a great idea, however i have 0 knowledge on these things, i think the speaker sounds OK but rather the amp simulator is a bit lacking, i've played JC120's before and they responded a lot different to playing, or maybe i'm just imagining things

In my search for a light amp, after JC-40, BC and Quilter Aviator Cub, I am evaluating this one. I can actually try this one in a local store.
As for others, there are very few gig recordings and I spent "some" time finding any. I thought I may post them here for future reference. I am not related to the bands or yt channels mentioned.

If you navigate this youtube channel to similar dates videos, you can find few more recordings.

If the only thing that has changed is the impedance of the speaker, a difference in output power of 20% will increase maximize SPL by no more than 1 dB (which is barely audible at most). If you're getting a clearly audible increase in loudness, it's probably from an increase in speaker sensitivity on top of the slight power increase.
