I posted this in Players forum also, but I know a lot of Grant Green fans hang around here and will enjoy watching this. Part 1... the other 2 parts are also up on youtube.

Thanks for the post I'm a big Grant Green fan, read the book also. I forget where I read it but Grant was the one guitarist horn players liked to work with and that's why he ended up on so many Blue Note records. There the old story about Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, and Grant Green were all playing in NYC at the same time. Pat Martino on the break between sets ran over to the club Grant was playing at and was standing in back listening to Grant. Pat looked over and just down from him was Wes Montgomery doing the same checking out Grant. Grant was the guitarist's guitarist.

In the movie part 2 George Benson is talking about being at a club with Wes listening to Grant and Wes telling George that Grant was his favorite guitar player.
Grant's playing sounded sometimes very simplistic till you transcribe some of his lines. Even GB says in the movie he had trouble playing Grant lines.

Great story docbop, imagine being in that room, wow, must have been buzzing.

I'm reminded of Grant by George's solo in the clip below:

Nice of them to share this film. It's a shame Wes' family never did a film like this honoring him. The only film on Wes I've seen is an old Orrin Keepnews stepping all over himself taking credit for Wes.

Great thread, thank you! Saw the clip, listening to that Kenny Dorham session. Just wow.

Actually, it's not the first, but the one starting at 1'40.
