Mr. Wu does nice work. " An original artist is unable to copy. So he has only to copy to be original. "
Jean Cocteau
One thing that stands out to me is the neck joint treatment. As a mando builder I noticed the 18th fret cross piece and the corner fillers are not used on the Wu. version.

So Matt.. do you think you could make me a bridge like the one on Camillus' guitar? Looks about right.
-
I could make a bridge that looked like that one but I prefer not to. I am not familiar with the wedge adjustment system. Without having the guitar on hand I see the possibility for a less than satisfactory result. I never like to experiment on custom made items. Out of curiosity what is the perceived advantage of this type of bridge adjustment?

It is a great looking bridge. It is different in how it works. So I would have to do some investigation before I would know how long it would take me to cut one out properly. This would take time which I don't have enough of right now. I am currently working on my own version of an all wood bridge.

And it says WU right on the headstock. That's an owner and builder taking pride in what they created, not some bullshit counterfeit.
Enjoy that guitar. I hope it's awesome.

Just to get input from folks that have ordered a guitar from Mr Wu, how accurate is the shipping info... Ms Lora shipped last Wednesday but this is the latest update I see from EMS
USPS says02/03/2018 20:18 Departed from export office Beijing
Pre-Shipment
So... 3/2 is Friday and no status update 4 days after that entry. Normal? Nothing new? Ideas?

The tracking on those parcels out of China is ridic !! Not only with Mr Wu, but when I'd get a shipment verification from Apple my new iPhone was enroute that tracking info would be off. All of a sudden it updates and wham your box is now in the States... EMS is sort like USPS - they deliver but their tracking is not as current or accurate time wise as say UPS or FedEx...
Be patient, you'll get it. And word of advice, when you do get it, air the doggone case out someplace safe for a week or so... Away from children and small animals. I don't know if it is the interior fabric or glue used in assembly but OOOOHHHHH WEEEEEEEEEEE
Be excited in a good way man, it's happening !!!!!!
-
Will do!
-
I never received an update UNTIL my parcel arrived stateside, and then notifying me that the parcel was in Customs. Be patient, it's coming
-
Ya gotta realize that EMS is sorta USPS and it's China, and shit is different there. Lora would tell me that she had somebody picking up the guitar from Mr Wu and would drive it down to her someplace in Beijing (huge place) and then she'd drop it off. And then for a couple of days nothing seemed to happen... Stuff takes longer there. We're so used to comparing things to what happens here.

Exactly. Chinese rules. If that guitar was finished in Russia it absolutely would not ship until someone was paid, IF, it shipped at all. If you've traveled outside the US you understand these things. When in Rome....

My experience with USPS has been good. Tracking is better, more up to date and accurate than UPS or Fedex. I get a text notification when a package goes into my mailbox, and when I go out, the mail truck is a couple of houses down. I also get a daily email with a scan of the mail I have coming that day, and it's really exciting to see all the junk mail coming my way.
In the past week I've received packages via UPS, Fedex, and USPS, and I was better informed of the USPS packages, which arrived quicker. If UPS and Fedex gives an initial estimate of the delivery date, it might arrive on that date, but you can bet the rent money it won't arrive early. USPS packages often arrive earlier than first estimated. YMMV.
Packages coming from China can be hit or miss with tracking. What I've mostly seen is that it departed, then nothing until the USPS gets it, and even then tracking is not the same as dometic mail. One must have patience, it will eventually arrive. Anticipation makes the receipt even better.

Just an update - waiting to acclimate.

I popped my cocoon open after 4 hours. I'd be surprised if BM didn't do the same. Can't wait to see your new guitar.

It would take a long time at a very low or high temperature to change the internal temp very much.

Photos tomorrow - thanks.

I have a guitar on a UPS truck that drove thru a very nasty snow storm in Pennsylvania, now working thru Ohio, when it gets here I’m being super cautious. You should be too.
Excited for you

I always tried to wait when an orange cocoon arrived. I always failed.

Well... As I wrote Ms Lora "the Eagle has landed" (I'll bet a number of you have said that exact thing) and here are some photos I've taken. My reaction is "Wow!" - It's (to me anyway) beautiful - colour & form, the attention to detail is extraordinary and it sounds and plays wonderfully.
I positioned the bridge with a tape measure ;-) tuned it up over the course of perhaps 90 minutes and the damned thing is "almost there". I'll do the fine tune in a few days. The neck profile is appropriate for an 18" guitar w/the added scroll and the action at first setup near 95% to my liking - so, I know it'll take very little effort to get it exactly right.
Let me know what you think (honest critiques are ALWAYS welcome) and let me thank all of you guys who were there for guidance and advice (esp BM, Spook, 2B and others...). My advice to others is do NOT be afraid to go this route. Ms Lora and the Wus are wonderful to work with and gave me exactly what I wanted.

This will need its own zipcode!

A Korn, by any chance?
