I've gone thru 3 snarks (their ball joints wear out and stop transferring the vibrations all the way to the screen head [unless you never much swivel anything once on the axe] )..Then I recently bought an Ernie Ball tuner. This one is clumsy and has 3-4 other features you don't need..If you were to use the vocal mode and or the metronome mode frequently the battery will go down way sooner than if just a tuner.. Also, the power-on/off button also is the mode selector. You gotta be extra careful or you, unknowingly, can easily change the mode and have to start scrolling back to "C A440" (C meaning 'C' instruments). After only 2 days the low E stopped responding unless you really wack it (the string I mean). I found it a big hassle..I took it back to GC and opted for the $24 DeltaLab..I like to mount it in the back(of the tuner I mean). The alligator clip spring is stronger than others. It's ergonomically nice to the touch with a rubbery kind of coating. There is a mode button but it's separate from the power button and very easy to ignore (just 2 buttons which are large and flat-ish). Screen head is shaped like an old analog TV about 1.5". The swiveling/positioning is very firm with the newer hinged type arms and is infinite. Finally, the readout is really fast and full. What I like is that at the top of each tuning bar (yellow/green/red) there is a little dot exactly like a small ' i '. I find this really helps you nail the note in. No auto shut off.. I'll give it 4.5 stars ..
Related: Even with the low E string's nut break-point correct, you still will get a very sharp F at first fret..Unless we're in E or maybe, B, it helps to flatten the E as a trade off if we're in F, C, Ab, etc. to get a nearer correct low F; though I believe my flatwound 13-56s are part of that problem, too.....Mark

I have had bad experiences with clip-ons. I bought a Snark a couple of years ago and it stopped working after just 2 weeks. I tried another clip-on but the battery kept running out within a couple of hours, even if it wasn't switched on! I hope your Deltalab proves to be more reliable.

I still use the F-Zone clip on tuner I bought about 20 years ago - accurate tuning and it still works.
Not sure if this model is still available....
-
Guess different folks have different experiences. I have Snarks that are years old and work fine. I know I have had at least one fail but not sure how old it was. They are so cheap I have several scattered about the place and forgotten in guitar cases. Usually buy them around black Friday deal time when prices get silly. You do have to swap batteries from time to time. Fortunately the batteries are cheap as well.
-
there are so many different snark models..all so different, so futile to generalize..but if you do a little research going in (for the features you require), you can get a pretty accurate and convenient snark for dirt cheap...
recommended- blue snark sn-1 , sn-14 (has different display), hz-1 (a little more involved..can tune by frequency...good unit for home/studio fine tuning)
cheers

Hello ! I posted a good review about a good tuner. I was not asking for comparisons to yours and how long it lasted... All anyone needed do is say 'thanks I'll check it out', or just move to another OP. Why oh why do online forum discussions always get like that one where there are 15 people; someone says something to the first person and says pass it on. When it gets to the 15th person they say "The shooters are from Thailand " when the first person heard " Your shoelaces are untied " !! ...I just quit a 10 year membership in a hobby forum for doing this so much it started to be more painful than pleasurable to contribute well meant ideas and suggestions.. I truly can not tell you what a relief it is to have gone cold turkey on that forum I was addicted to; something never needed when there were no internet clubs.. I don't feel that too much in JG but do ask kindly to please really get the whole gist of an OP before replying.. But, due to the nature of people, I'm sure some are going to jump on me even for this very post, meant as a plea, not an administrative order or rule...So, here I go again (I hear the trumpets blow again)...M

sounds like you don't want a forum, you want a sounding board!
& not the first time!!
these threads may be of benefit to others besides yourself...Last edited by neatomic; 05-11-2017 at 09:37 PM.

I skipped the review and read the other posts, so sorry. I find the Snark Hz to be quite good. Oh and it lasts longly as well.

Those are certainly possible and plausible responses. But so is someone responding to a (no-affiliation) plug for one tuner with a (no-affiliation) plug for another one. Happens in pick threads all the time. I suspect many people who read your post will see it, in part, as an invitation to talk about the tuners they are equally pleased by.

My Delta Lab tuner has been serving me faithfully for several years and I think I've only had to change the battery twice. I would highly recommend it.

I'm another happy Snark user. I first used the red one, then the black one. Both were very good at tuning but had the weak ball joints that would eventually break on both. Then I picked up the slightly smaller HZ and have had terrific results. Not only is the display clearer and easier to read than its predecessors, but it's joint is stronger and hasn't shown any signs of stress as of yet. This may be the Snark that lives long enough to deserve a new battery.

One nice thing about the clip on Peterson strobotuner is you can buy them cheap from people who find them a PITA as a general purpose tuner. They work great on the bench for things like setting a bridge without using up the space for a full size strobotuner.
And MarkinLA.. part of your post was 'Snarks fail/suck/whatever". The responses are on topic. However, and typically, they don't have to be. So please join us in a bit of pleasant chaos swirling, more or less, around the topic of jazz guitar.

Your shoelaces are untied. And the shooters are NOT from Thailand.

Thanks to these threads, my clip-on tuner and my pick collection exploded. No room for the delta I am afraid

Those who want a strobe tuner but find the Peterson cumbersome may like the TC Electronic one.Last edited by medblues; 05-12-2017 at 11:17 AM.

Please tell me, oh great one, self appointed psychiatrist that you are !!

Thanks for the supportive reply. Please tell that to 'neatomic', above/below, who actually insulted me over my otherwise well meant OP !!.. M

MarkInLA, I always look forward to your posts these days, as I enjoy a good laugh. You state one thing, someone states another, and then you go into a rant about bloody forums. Very amusing. Keep it up.
Now, what were you talking about? (Said he, trying to encourage another rant).
BTW, I use a TC Electronic clip on polytuner. Best tuner for me by a country mile.

When you get one let me how you like it...M

I personally find it useful when others discuss a topic and have experiences different than my own. I haven't seen many posts about tuners and perhaps others used the opportunity to tell of their tuner experiences just as the OP did. MarkInLA perhaps in the future you could write a disclaimer in your OP stating that you don't want others to express their opinions on your thread, especially if you predict that it's going to happen. However I do believe most people consider that part of the forum milieu.

Wrong. It's MY thread. Another time it'll be her's, then yours ! I have my style of grammar at work here, how I desire to communicate in a forum on the textual level. Dig?! I initiated the discussion as a green light about one stinking tuner I like; which you or others might like too; a friendly gesture, Right? It's not a 'rebuttals-wanted' thread. It's a 'ya might wanna check this out folks', thread. But there always has to be a couple killjoys who can never simply lend respect for what an opening post's aim is truly about. No one should need type a 'disclaimer' in order to be helpful ! [Disclaimer: Warning, my friendliness may not be good for some forum viewers. Proceed at your own risk !!"]. Leave alone I even added a kindly suggestion concerning the low F being sharp and what might be done. The nature of the OP is plain to see. You know what it's like ?: It's your birthday. So I bring you a giant Hershey bar and you say to me "Hey, you gotta check out this Nestle's Big 0....!". Or, it's like: " Thanks, but, my last Nestle bar melted too fast, so I........" That's what it feels like.

Ya watchin' Bob ? You know what's gonna happen, don't ya! It'd be nothing short of a miracle if it doesn't, huh!
But this is my final post in this, my own thread, anyway. I jump off here..!!
