Intelligent Collector has a nice article about GB's guitar collection, some of which they (Heritage Auctions) will be auctioning later this month.

Check it out here: The George Benson Collection – The Intelligent Collector

    Jimmys uncle, John..
When you are Italian, everybobies your uncle. Or your cousin or you brother... it's a respect thing. I remember when I was younger my father had a friend who sang for the Del Vikings, his name was Kripp Johnson. He was my uncle. I introduced him one time to a girl I was seeing at the time as my uncle. She said, he's your uncle? I said, "yeah! What, a black man can't be my uncle?"..
    we are all related, somehow.
    George is great.
A brand new 1980 D'Aq. That would be a score.. Big Mike, jump on it bro. Owned by Georgie himself..

I think they already tried to auction that Daquisto before, but at a starting bid of 60k (plus 20% auction costs) no takers obviously

Currently these guitars seem to have an asking of 36-37k ; and I very much doubt if there are people who would pay double for it being associated with GB

A divorce is why many people sell off their stuff in the first place. DAMHIKT.

Great guy, easy to admire him as a man.
I've got tickets to see him the 26th, front row !! Only seen him twice, in 1986 at Shorline with Kenny G opening, and in 2009 at Bergen PAC. This gig it's Kenny G opening again and the Chicago Theater is a real eye opener of a place. I got on the ticket website and just dragged the price slider all the way over to the best. I figure at his age this may be my last chance to see him so I got great seats, just to the left of center stage. Can't wait,

As for buying one of his guitars, I don't think so...

if within my price range and i liked the guitar, i 'd definitely pay a bit more to get a guitar previously owned/played by benson, the inspiration would suffice!

Couple years ago I think it was
Rudy's that had a blonde prototype LGB300 with supporting documentation and photos on consignment - the asking price was 10k... If I remember correctly the timbers used were real plain. I was thinking back then it wasn't worth it to me... Now if I saw something like that again I'd likely think the same thing.

Let's take this conversation a little closer to (aaahhh) reality. A while back a buddy of mine let me know he saw a Ibanez GBY2K for sale - anyone that knows me knows I want one. He said the guy has it on Reverb. Sure enough it is there, but the cat is in Brazil and his price on the Y2K is $21,000.00 - he's got photos of Mr Benson holding it. Well now there is a blonde GB30 (the model with set pickups and a stop tail usually these are black or red... He wants 4k for that. No pictures of Mr. Benson playing that one though. Here, have a look see. Oh yeah and the price on the Y2K is now $16,000.00 plus $1400.00 for shipping (flight case).

Benson is a premier guitarist and seems to be a true gentleman as well.

Unfortunately, the last few years he has not toured in the States too much--hasn't been anywhere near me for years. So far he only has about 5 dates in the States for 2017. I could possibly see him in Minnesota, which is in a fairly out-of-way place rather far from Minneapolis, but pretty area.

Maybe he will add more dates as we getter closer to the fall?

    Would love to see him.

If he lives in the Phoenix area then why can't he do a few gigs here in AZ?

    Enquiring minds want to know.

My understanding is he has (had) a place in New Jersey also. Maybe he decided the warmer climate was better for him and Johnnie Lee...

I made an offer on the GBY2k of 10K. The seller just countered my offer with $14,500.00 plus $1400.00 shipping.
Talk about nosebleed. And based on my experience with the K Yairi 2 months ago who knows what Customs would want. Pass...

I'm really pumped to see him.
