Oh so it's maybe not quite as nice as what I had imagined, I saw a picture of one and it looked nice with the arch shape and all. I think I'll keep my eyes open for something that fits better than the acoustic guitar case that mine is in now. Thanks for that info BTW!

    GNAPPI,
Yeah, for what I spent on pickups over the years, I could have bought another great quality guitar or two, *unless the pickups are really lacking (which in my experience is pretty rare) just be happy with what you have, save save save! And buy more guitars!!!!

    Jx30510,
So you have the same guitar? Cool!
I might eventually try a different bridge, either a TOM or a compensated ebony bridge but for now I'm just going to enjoy it as is.

    Aquilador,
Boy, that is a pretty nice looking Ibanez that you have there too, Ibanez make a great guitar!

Way back in 1983-84 I bought a brand new Ibanez Rocket Roll II Flying V in a beautiful AAA flamed maple sunburst and it too had flawless fret dressing and neck binding. That one was made in Japan but it seems that anything that Ibanez builds whether it's in Japan or China they do the most amazing neck/fret work, smooth as glass!

The difference to me was amazing, particularly as I was trying to find that 'Wes Montgomery' tone and as you said about string bending, I was trying to get away from doing that anyway.
In fact, I might even consider going for 13's next time, but these Thomastik strings are really expensive and last a long time (so they say...) so I'm more than happy with what I have for the present.

It's interesting you were thinking about replacing your bridge with a Tune-o-matic version, which mine already has, because I was actually asking myself would the guitar sound even more jazzy if I installed the wooden compensated bridge that your SS possesses?
Can anybody verify that this would indeed be likely?

I was also interested to read here that a different compensated bridge would be required depending on whether one was using a plain G string or wound G string.
I would never have realised that!
I have had, both stock, the TOM and wooden bridge by ibanez on my a lgb30. I'd say both will give you different jazzy sounds.

The wooden bridge literally gives you a woody sound: Warmer, comforting, sound and that damped jazz effect.
(think Joe pass-for django) personally I like wooden, unfortunately things can get a bit muddy, especially when switching to fingerstyle (it could be my pick up though its the stock super 58 custom)

The TOM is brighter.. Chords have more separation and clarity and notes have more sustain and honk. If you play with your fingers (and or a thick look) you'll definitely get a brighter sound without amp eq manipulation.
Think George Benson.(I know he uses a wooden bridge but that's the sound I get!)

I use the TOM because of note separation, intonation and that I'm practicing a lot of Benson these days

So I'd say compensate for your guitar and go for the sound your looking for.

    Thanks for your input jajabinker.

The interesting comment you make is the muddying effect when playing with the fingers and not a pick, as I play exclusively finger style.
On the other hand, I turn bass, mid and treble on my amplifier down to 8 o'clock to mute things somewhat, so trying out a compensated wooden bridge with amp settings back towards 12 o'clock might be a step in the direction I want.

I also play all my classical pieces on the Ibanez too (just because I can!), so a warmer tone is preferable to me.
I, too, like the Benson tone and also have a couple of Earl Klugh albums, but I do struggle playing jazz chords on my classical guitar fretboard although they do sound pleasant tone wise.

Burstbucker, you mentioned you were looking out for a case to better fit your Ibanez...

My AG95 was not supplied with a case in the UK and I had a bit of trouble looking for an Ibanez case as I was not happy buying a third party case for it.
I wonder if the Ibanez case I did find that fitted perfectly would be a fit for yours?

My AG95 has a lower bout measurement of 14.5" and the Ibanez part number is GB-C.

    Worth a try?

Edit: I found out that the SS300 has a lower bout width of 15" so the GB-C wouldn't fit anyway. Oh well...

The case of the SS300 is actually pretty nice I think.
You can find a case that will fit at Thomann with a bit of search.
I bought a Thomann brand case for my Es 175 Premium for 55€ and it fits perfectly and does the job in every way.
It's not a deluxe case but for the price is very neat.
You should easily find one at Thomann (and an original Ibanez one for sure)
I think that the SS300 is exactly the same size as the GB10 by the way

I have no connection here, but I saw this on EBay UK.

When you do the money exchange that's just a few dollars more than what I got mine for but I didn't have to deal with eBay, and S&H fees, etc.... Plus I got to check it out in person.

That one on eBay is a good deal, somebody will be very happy when they buy it.

Yup it does look a good buy, I am a bit concerned about the wiring you can see in the lower F hole, it looks a bit untidy. Is yours like that burstbucker?

    andyb,

Yes, unfortunately the internal wiring on mine is kind of messy too. Not a big deal to me but it is kind of strange since they were so meticulous with everything else on this guitar. Probably the only knock against it really.

Maybe I will be able to clean that wiring up on mine at some point.
