I played a friend's MIM Tele with a maple fingerboard recently- very nice guitar. The finish on the fretboard was noticeable, although after a few songs I didn't really notice as much as I thought I would. Nice sounding instrument. I also have a Squier Affinity which has a satin finish on the neck and fingerboard, which is not too bad in terms of feel but the neck is too narrow/thick. It might be the feel of a gloss finish on the fingerboard that bothers me. I am thinking about trying a Warmoth roasted maple neck and 'board on one of my Teles- no finish required for their warranty! That could be very interesting.

I've never seen a roasted maple neck but it sounds intriguing: you get a wood that's hard and doesn't need finishing, but it's not a tropical wood with all the CITES issues.

What a polarizing subject... politics anyone? :-)

I don't know if I'd use the word "negligible," but I think the sound difference is pretty subtle. Rosewood is a tad darker and warmer. Maple is just a bit brighter.

I think you can make either one work for you, but it's always best if you can play several guitars and buy the one that speaks to you.

It's "merry Christmans" vs "happy holidays" all over again!

I say merry christmas to everyone. They should be happy I say anything to them, I could easily just brush past and put up two middle fingers.

As my last name is Matz, I often get Jewish holiday salutations (we'really the Catholic leg of the family, somehow. Also German...hmmmm...) I say thank you, because if you went out of your way to wish me a happy something then it doesn't matter, I appreciate you thinking of me. It could have been "the year is one, hail Satan!" And I'd have at least been like "I know! He has his father's eyes."
