Originally the 5ths had wood bridges... changed to TUSQ prior to Kingpin series.
Don't trust Godin literature example would be a video from SWEETWATER... granted not a factory video but nonetheless they got the info wrong..
In presenting the JAZZ. the guy calls the wood cherry when it is obvious it is maple.. he calls the fingerboard rosewood when it is obviously ebony..
Not Godin's fault but still wrong..

Trust and verify.
I'll check out the factory video once more on their promo of the 5th series...
At minimum, fit the TUSQ bridge.
I have replaced a few of the TUSQS bridges on Godins.. most with Rosewood..
One with ebony, I liked the looks better with rosewood as it matches the fingerboard, but preferred the ebony sound on that particular guitar. I keep one of each in my stash.
All got 13 strings. I like the feel of 12s better and may try some different brands to see if I can get 13 sound with 12 tension.Last edited by bohemian46; 11-19-2016 at 03:53 PM.

Pardon the thread revival ...
I recently tried a Kingpin and was quite impressed with the acoustic sound. Despite the set-in pick-up, it seemed about quiet loud, and sounded pretty close to a legit acoustic guitar to my ears. I was curious whether anyone here had compared it to the 5th Ave "Jazz" model (the variant that has a cutaway and a floater), especially the acoustic tone. The demos I've heard on youtube are all plugged in, which I find hard to judge in general, and not helpful for acoustic tone.

I found the Jazz sounded even better unplugged, still not loud, but very pleasant, with a little broader spectrum of tone.
I agree with your assessment of the Kingpin's tone, not loud, but pretty darn nice.

Superb job on that Vince Guaraldi classic Mr. B!

Thanks, mine, not that I "arranged" too much. Pretty basic "put the melody on the chord" thing. I should gussy it up a bit for this year.

That was so well done, I can feel the love! the little voices made it quite special!

That sounds really good, Jeff. Re: volume, I guess if your audience is reasonably well behaved toddlers, it should be loud enough ...

Beautiful guitar, man. I've never owned a KP, but have played quite a few, and liked them all. Play it in happiness!
Beaumont, great rendition of a great song.

How much changes in a year, the lil blondie who says Hi to me at the end speaks in full sentences now...
Anyway, thanks all. Hope this video helps people hear what the guitar sounds like. I haven't played a all-acoustic 5th avenue in years, but I'm thinking with bronze strings and no P90 sitting on the top, they'd sound even better...

Mine recently turned 11; complete sentences since ~ 2, now approaching the age when communicating in complete sentences ceases ...

Man, don't apologize. The non-cutaway guitars have a special fullness and roundness of tone that just sets them apart.
Also, that Godin somewhat reminds me of a ES150 sound....slightly compressed but full and round, and bell-like clarity. It is its own special thing, and its like a really good vodka martini...well-defined.
I'd never really looked at one of these before, but your post and Mr. Beaumont's playing have interested me. There is just something about that full-body sound.
