Cleaned and polished, Fresh TI .13 rounds, incredible sound. Neck is perfection. Really great condition. Totally different animal from my 1972. This guitar was an offer I couldn't refuse, it came with a new friendship, the seller and I are now jamming buddies. How cool is that? Very. The guitar had flat wound TI's, and I've never been a flatround player, although it sounded great with them. I'd be interested to know who else plays one of these vintage 175's, and what strings they use.

I think this guitar is my holy grail. The seller had pictures on his walls of all the greatest guitar players from the golden era, and most all of them were playing one of these. It's a sound divine. Holy Smokes!

Can anyone tell me why 2 of these pics are rotated by our uploader? It's driving me crazy? Please!

OK, I got it. I copy and pasted the pics into Microsoft Picture Manager, rotated, and saved them. Interesting.

Beautiful axe. I have a 63 (Different neck and different pups). The pre Norlin ES-175's are among the best jazz guitars of all time.

As far as picture rotation, I have found that if you look at the picture on your computer first, you will often see that it needs to be properly rotated before being uploaded here. I had a few that loaded upside down and after that I always check on my desktop first. I have not had a problem since.

    Cheers,

    Marc

    Thanks Marc,

I did look at them first. They're upright. There must be something else going on. Maybe the guitar, being 60 years old just likes laying down?

what I notice is this. If I take a picture with my iPhone, it uploads wrong. But if I move it to my computer and rotate it, then save, and upload it, it's fine.

I think there is a problem with the iPhone's code for the picture's orientation. Even if you hold it upright (portrait) the photo can end up landscape. You have to "hard" set the orientation somehow, and I just edit and save on my computer.

1955, now that was a VERY good year!!!! She looks to be in fantastic condition.

She's a beauty Steve! Can't wait to come over and hear that one! Great photos of a rare November sunny day in the Pacific Northwest too!

Thanks for sharing the back story too my friend. Holy Grail, yes indeed!

    Congratulations and ENJOY!

Thats the cleanest 55 in existance. What an absolutely beautiful guitar. I can hear it now. Down to the way the case opens and the sound it makes. Old Gibsons have a smell about them that can't be replicated.
You are gonna have a blast. We won't hearing from you for a while because you will be playing your butt off with this guitar, so we can't wait see you when you come back!
    thanks for sharing.

Nineteen fifty-five... we had a '55 Chevy Bel Air in two-tone green with a 283 c.i. V8, which was way cool, but not as cool as your new guitar! congratulations, and play it in good health!

Yup. That's the stuff. I've got a '53/single P90. Just sold a '55 blonde and have had a couple other '50's examples. I feel the same way about my '53 as you describe. If I could have only one guitar that would likely be the one I'd keep.

As to strings. I've always kept TI 12's on it but may put some rounds on just to see how it affects the 'tubbiness' in the low end but it's all good.

A '50's 175 is a soul soother. Every jazzer should have one in the collection.

    Congrats indeed!

That was my very first car! Rich black vinyl upholstery, complete with AM in dash radio and an aftermarket 8 track install. In California there was a great abundance of 55, 56, and 57 Chevy's...in 1970

My '55 cost me $250, and I worked all summer to earn the money to buy it!

Very cool. Very thick neck I assume?

As far as image rotation, it depends on the viewer (browsers in this case). Some browsers will read the EXIF orientation data and rotate.

Quite amazing to consider the fortune journey that guitar took to 2016 in that condition.

    Enjoy!

Wintermoon, Idid a bunch of comparisons for price and condition, and I’m astounded. This oneis the nuts! Regarding Kenny B, I certainly wore out some of his vinyl’s. Thegrooves looked like a glacier carved them. Thanks Bro!

Joe, I’mfeeling mighty lucky. Sometimes it just rolls your way. This guitar wasn’t whatI went to see, but the seller brought it out for me to play and then offered itup. I was blown away. I’ve always wanted one of these old ones. The best part, theguy is such a decent human being and suffers from the same disease most of uson the forum have. We became instant friends. I love that. Thanks man!

Citizenk74,thanks man! My dad had a ’55 Bel Air. I was very young. It was very cool, andso was he! Had an incredible voice and sang like Luciano Pavaratti, I thought.I appreciate the good wishes.

Thanks! Therearen’t enough to go around for everyone to have one, but that is a greatthought. I feel a tremendous amount of good karma from this guitar, certainly alot of soul.

HeyNow, Thanks. It’s thick, but I wouldn’t call it ‘Very’ thick. I’d call it substantial maybe.Thicker than my more modern archtops, which start about .84” and max out around.94” at the 9’th fret. This one is Close to 1”, and fairly consistent up theneck. Not the baseball bat that came on my ‘40’s L7. Exceptionally comfy. Justa shade under 1.75 wide.

Rictroll, Thisguitar has had 2 previous owners. The first had it for 55 years, until hisdeath. RIP. The second had it since then. It’s spent a lot of recent timeunplayed. Kind of puts a marker on your own existence, doesn’t it? Age has beenkind to this guitar! It’s going to get serious love from me. I know how totreat a guitar right. She won’t want to leave me.

So I'm curious, what guitar did you go to see, before this gem was brought out? Craigs?
