I think the thread is about acoustic archtops, no?

I've got an epiphone swingster. Replaced the bigsby with a trapeze tailpiece and replaced the stock humbuckers with gibson 4 conductors, so that the pull knobs still work. I then got a piece of mahogany and wedged it inside the body under the bridge. I think I sounds pretty good. I like the feel of the neck and fret board. I couldn't afford an L-5

Neither can I. But that's okay, because there are a number of instruments in the $1000-2000 price range that are very well made and wonderful to play. for a few dollars over $2K you can own a beautiful Peerless Imperial, Cremona or a Heritage H575.

Epi Joe Pass. Not necessarily the BEST sub $1,000 archtop, but possibly the best bang-for-buck. For $500, it's hard to go wrong.

There are many candidates overlooked by players, which is unfortunate. After seeing Tal Farlow play that little red plastic git I got my head out of my nether regions and started to focus more on what 2B said which is true for many models.

" the guitar possesses so much merit, there's no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater"

I would have to say my # 1 choice would be the 90's Korean Epi Joe Pass, next up most any Ibanez model numbered 100 and above, and some of the fully hollow Korean D'Angelico models.

GnJ has some minor flawed guitars, I got a pretty little Eastman 403 blond for 800.shipping, hard shell case( the case is a slight irritant)pro set up.boxed securely they must know the fed ex ups deliverers.I heard a truck pull up walked out on the porch and there was the fed ex driver tossin the box up on the porch. The box had FRAGILE IN RED All Over it! but thanks to the packing it was fine. Also Slightly touched guitars has some deals.

I remember reading somewhere (or did I see it in a video?) that the little red guitar was an ES-140 that Gibson finished in red for Tal.
