Woah! Big score. Congrats, 2bop. That looks like a beauty. I have a P90 Natural from 2006. Looks a lot more blonde than yours.

A good ES-175 ticks all the right boxes. Sometimes, I wonder why we bother with anything else.

I'd be ready to give it a home when you decide to move it on...

Before last week I hadn't a clue one could get such a tone out of a laminated 16" archtop. I may be late to the party but I'm no less a fan. Better late than never!

Fabulous shot Marc! I'm diggin' the brim too. Back in my day we referred to those as apples. In fact, in the very early 70's we wore them backwards like kids wear BB caps today. That was the thing, with reverse cuffed 501's.

    Where'd the time go?

    2b,
Gorgeous guitar ! I had an early 60's single and double PU PAF many moons ago and should have kept at least one of them . These 175's produce that great electric jazzy tone that we've all come to admire.

    Enjoy !

Thank you Steve. I'm getting quite the '175 education these past 10 days. I'm impressed.

2b, you've had a great couple of weeks bro.
All you need is what you got. That great amp. The red L5, the venerable 175. And the 18" Wu that you love so much. A dream lineup for sure. I'm really happy for you 2b. That's about as good as it gets. The benchmarks with a couple of special luxuries sprinkled in.
Enjoy them bro. You are livin!!

Then perhaps it's not a good idea to wear it Gary.

Yep, Burgundy & Blonde go hand in hand, sunburst too
look forward to hearing of the Wesmo when it arrives.
I debated long & hard on a Wesmo or an L5CEs, difficult
choice but the L5 won out, I would still like a nice Wesmo
in the arsenal, but unwilling to part with any current
Archtops to fund one. You won't be satisfied either until
    you've tried an L4CES , I'll wager .

Congratulations! The whole Gibson 16" Florentine cutaway family-L4c, ES165, ES175 is an example of a real "sweet spot" in guitar design. My ES165 Herb Ellis formerly in the care of Joe DeNisco, (and currently thinking it has stepped down in the world) is my go-to guitar and favorite electric. I can't get bad tone from it no matter how hard I try!

Then my Gibson ES175D VOS 1959 is just a honey. It's lighter than the current 175s, and has its own mojo, that I've grown to love so much. I play that guitar and feel like Jim Hall... until I listen to what I'm playing... hey when I screw up the notes, at least the tone doesn't let me down!

I can't wait to witness the side-by-side comparison of the 175s. I doubt the Epiphone will suffer terribly, though. When Epiphone gets it right, they are really excellent. My Elitist Broadway is a stunning, superb guitar. It has a really close approach to the "Gibson feel"--a little heavy, solid as a rock, purrs, growls, sighs... wonderful instrument.

So in the spirit of things, here are my two Gibson 16" electrics:

    A few current listings range from $3,500 - $5,400 - amazing. I paid $800 new in 1980.

man, you guys go through guitars like I go through bottled water!
back when I was buying I don't think I ever bought more than one or two a year.
can't say I'll never buy another guitar, there's only a couple left on my bucket list and if they don't pop up I'll be cool.
but hey, if ya got the means, by all means, gopher it.

my fingers are getting tired of all the NGD congrats around here!

    2b,

That's a beauty. The figuring on the 90s 175 guitars is pretty staggering. Every one of them sounds impressive, too.

Can't wait for the full report.

Gorgeous 2B! Try not to go too crazy with the head to head thing. They are two different instruments albeit different price points. Just let them be individuals and try not to declare a victor!

    Thank you Elamberth!

But those were rush shots. I'm a mirror less digital fan. I use a Fuji XT-1 body. Those shots were taken with a Fuji 56mm f/1.2 lens. In natural room light I generally shoot with the aperture wide open at 1/125 handheld. I should have stopped down the aperture for a tighter focus. I also should have used a different lens as that lens is great for bokeh but not for taking short range shots. I'll try my Fuji rangefinder to see if I can do better. These cameras excel in indoor low light conditions. And with the new XT-2 just hitting stores the XT-1 can be had for a song.
