    you have champagne taste...swarts are great..they look cool too!..they have great tone and wonderful reverb and trem...their low watt amps can really crank...esp. for their lightweight size

    I've never owned one, but I've played through a few. Good Marshall-type dirt, cleans on the shimmer side rather than sparkle. I've never played jazz on one and can't intelligently comment on their suitability for the style. But I'd play rock, blues, and fusion on one without any problem but -- you guessed it! -- my own playing.

    I have a Traynor YCV40WR. Great amp. Excellent cleans, nice responsive tone controls, Very nice reverb, footswitchable mid-boost, an OD channel that goes from sweet tweedy tone (think RVG) to look out, depending on settings. Also looks great. I like it a lot.

    It took me a while to realise that if I had different guitars to do different things, then one amp was very unlikely to fit all of my needs. Much experimenting has been done as a result; some of it fun, some of it very frustrating. In the end, I have these set-ups with which I am currently pretty happy:

    Quartet gigs (jazz/blues/funk/world): Vestax D'Angelico NYSS, TI Bebops, DV Mark Galileo & matching 1x12" open-back cab, pedalboard.

    Standards trio/duo - Vestax D'Angelico NYL-5, TI Swings, Fender Super Champ XD 1x10" (blackface channel only).

    Other jazz set-up for more "vintage" sound - Epi JP with P90's, TI Swings, Jazzkat Blueskat 1x8" (tube channel only). More of a 40's/50's kind of sound with a bit of "hair".....

    I could of course use any of the above mixed and matched for any gig. Wouldn't sound as good to my ears, nor would I enjoy playing as much, so possibly wouldn't play as well? All subjective stuff, but to me it backs up the Keith Richards quote about the "right guitar with the right amp". And note the string choices, which are the other major factor IMHO.

    I really think that the amp is part of the instrument but I found that you can get a great sound from a good fender amp and a few easy mods

    Now you make me curious! What mods do you use on Fender amps? 25k mid pot perhaps? Are we talking Tweeds or AB763?

    Hey Jay, I've got a deluxe reverb reissue and a super reverb reissue, I just got these mods off the Internet for blackface reissues. They said you can pull out the first preamp tube, it disables the normal channel but lives up the other channel. also they said you can disconnect one wire in the vibrato circuit which disables the vibrato and that makes it even more lively. But probably the biggest difference came with the speaker changes. I used celestion type A speakers and both amps sound awesome now. I replaced the 4x10 baffle in the super with a 2x12 . Got pine plywood and cut and painted the baffle and ordered grill cloth. It looks like factory from the front but I like the 2 12s much better than the 4 10s.

    Thanks! Yes, pulling the first 12ax7 biases V2 hotter. Gives more gain. Same with disconnecting the vibrato, you lift 50k from the circuit.

    You could also try a 12ax7 in V6 (last preamp tube- the PI) and see how you like that.

    With the two 12s you essentially turned it into a Pro Reverb!

    Mine contributes very little to the sound. It's a DV Jazz 12, which is like playing through a headset. It's incredible with my multi fx running from the SY-300, because I made all of my patches with a headset and only the Jazz 12 is THAT clean.

    Hi Marwin, it looks like you're playing a Gretcsh 5620 in Georgia green. I love that guitar, I almost got one. I like the single cutaway better than the double but they're both great.
    I compared them with hollow gretsch es and I thought it sounded better than the all hollow ones. I have not heard a dv mark in person but checked out some YouTube videos. It sounded great in videos. I thought about getting one of those too. I wonder what guitars you decided against when you got the 5620?

    Yes Jay about the Pro Reverb! I tried to get the 4 10s to sound the way I wanted but liked the 12s better. My next mod is probably going to be replacing the bright switch cap from a 120 pf to something less . Perhaps 47pf or 68. I like the tone of the deluxe reverb which uses a hardwired 47 pf.it will be a little hard to get to the underside of the control panel circuit board, so I'll probably try at least two cap values before I close it all back up.I heard silver Micah might sound smoother than ceramic disc. It probably won't be a noticeable difference but because I only want to do it once I might try to get silver mica. I was wondering what amp do you use?
