So I just picked up an Ibanez AG100, au natural vibe, and can't stand the cream hardware. 3-Way switch toggle to black and toggle nut and washer as well. No pickguard. No bigs so far. But these cream pickup mounting rings are atrocious, and I want to change them to wood, but will settle for black. Bridge is a tall curved bottom. Neck is a curved bottom flat top. Why isn't there a replacement for this specific type. All curves are slanted/tapered. I can't find a Tall Curved Bottom Flat Top Non-tapered/Slanted ring to save my life. Currently testing all options available. Please help me find this or make it so I can finally sleep, lol. Contacted Ibanez and haven't heard back yet.

A router and some judicious sanding could get you where you want to go. Sounds like a fun project, to me.

I know there was a guy who would make wood rings to match if you sent him yours, but I can't seem to find his site now.

I wish I played so well that I had time to worry about the color of my pick up rings. If you're really losing sleep over the color of plastics on a $350 guitar, you are in for some terrible challenges in life. Enjoy your guitar, enjoy life man!

I just changed my pu rings from black to cream !

You can buy wood pickup rings at LMI. They have a good selection of wood types. The rings come unfinished and may need some final shaping and a finish.

Or just roughen them a bit with a fine grit sandpaper and use a spray can to make em black, less than $10 and a perfect fit for sure

Sign up on the Ibanez Collector's World forum and SEARCH for Porkpie, he replicates many hard to find Ibanez parts, or has originals... In searching it took me a while, a whole bunch of cats had used Porkpie for parts when doing restores.

Seems like sort of a tacky trademark on many Ibanez models, I ignore them.
The "play more look less comments" are a bit harsh. OP, you may find a more sympathetic and knowledgeable ear on the pup rings on the Ibanez board.Last edited by GNAPPI; 08-16-2016 at 05:56 PM.

David King in Portland OR can make you any of these parts in wood and he has a beautiful selection of exotic woods. Nice guy too. Here's a link to his site and be sure to visit the "products" page.

Those cream rings do look a bit funky with the dark wood tailpiece, knobs and bridge. Nice looking guitar though, it's owner should be happy!
Look near the middle/bottom of this page for 'curved', there's standard size and Epiphone/Import. The 'Epiphone' rings look non-tapered but aren't specified 'flat', 'tapered' or 'slanted'. I've found these guys to be helpful with details by email (small shop so sometimes takes a day or 2 to respond when orders are heavy).

If flat curved-bottom rings aren't available then flat rings could easily be sanded to match the contour of the curved rings.
This is the pic for the Epiphone/Import rings, the angle of the pic makes it hard to tell for sure if they're tapered. If you look closely at the Guitar Parts Resource site the regular curved rings might be tapered and the Epiphone rings might be flat - best to inquire.Last edited by MaxTwang; 08-16-2016 at 02:24 PM.

My AF105NT has yellowed since 2010 so the cream rings sorta fit the look now. Great $600 jazz box.

I missed that it was the OP's first post. I apologize if I came off as harsh, though I stand by my message, which could have been delivered with softer language. I have no problem at all with the looks of the guitar pictured in post #12 above.
Welcome to the forum and enjoy that guitar!

My Ibanez AF125 Custom has cream pickup rings which compliment the Amberburst finish beautifully.
Yet another in the never ending list of trivialities over which we obsess. Anybody feel like discussing headstock shapes or tuner buttons?

Doesn't seem to be a problem for some.

Thanks all for all the help. Ibanez got back to me and so I'm gonna wait on the route and see if it pans out. No worries in regards to the "play more look less" responses. I play quite enough, my wife can attest to that. Did the 12 hour a day routine for 4 years in college and still try to play 2 hours a day and 6 a day on weekends. I just like giving neglected guitars a small restore and a little sprucing up in the looks area. Thanks all!

Btw, thanks for the nice welcome! I am a recovering metalhead, grew up in a jazz house though. I'm so glad this forum and community is alive and kicking. Thanks for all the help. If Ibanez falls through, I will definitely check out all the links you guys gave.
I have quite a few guitars with cream hardware and they look awesome. Just thought this one might look cool with an all woodsy vibe with the hardware.

What a contrarian I am! On my '69 Les paul Custom, at the first opportunity I swapped the black rings and switch tip to cream, and when I finally got the Bigsby (because Les Pauls don't weigh enough) replace with a stop bar, I top-wrapped it. What a goofball, huh?
