I feel like a guy who went into a club planning to get a drink and laugh a bit and go home. But woke up the next morning thinking I'd just had a fantastic dream, looking over and seeing a mysterious, unknown but heart-stopper of a lady sleeping next to me... How did THAT happen? (How can it happen again?)
So I had an Epiphone Broadway, MIK version, nice guitar, loved it. Cruising around online... ended up with this MIJ 2005 Epiphone Elitist Broadway in mint condition, I mean MINT. Solid (formed) spruce top, solid flamed maple back, Grover tuners, 17" and deeper than the MIK Broadway, it's an L5 body style.
Out of the carton, put on my TI JS113s and it needed NOTHING. What a beauty. Plays smooth and sensuous, sounds rich and sweet, looks like a million bucks.
So I guess I'll be posting a "for sale" for my much loved MIK Broadway after taking some pics...

happy for you, congrats. any info on those knobs?
-
They are the standard carousel knobs that come with the Epiphone Brodway Elitist.
-
Those Elitist Broadway's are the steal of the era. Gibson retired them, I believe, because they knew they would have a difficult time selling upscale Gibson Archie's with the Elitists around.
enjoy.
-
They're standard issue on the Elitist Broadway. Still trying to decide if I like them...

I suspect that it's laminated, based on various lists of specs I've reviewed, but I could be wrong.
Where did you get the info?
-
Hey actually I think you are right that the back is laminated. I actually only think "solid" or "carved" if those words appear, otherwise, laminated, and I mis-spoke. I don't know actually, but "solid" does not appear in the specs of the back, and it does appear for the top.

Actually I don't know if "thunk" is how I'd describe the Aria. It's got that nice somewhat more stringy sound of the L5ces, which is its inspiration of course. It's a very clear, articulate tone, again, that I associate with the L5. Royce Campbell's recordings and Joshua Breakstone to me are the modern "baselines" of the L5ces sound.

Clearly.... I need to play both of these guitars more, just so I can resolve this burning issue!

That's really nice. I have an Elitist Broadway too but blonde. When I bought an early 70s L-5 I did think about selling the Broadway, but it is really pretty, and I just couldn't do it. I have found the Broadway to be slightly lighter weight than the L-5 and the acoustic sound is louder and more more boomy than the L-5. The L-5 is quite quiet acoustically and more tinny sounding, but it is magical as I can hear every note more easily rather than a mush of notes. Plugged in to my ears with a bit of tweeking they can both get the sound I like, but then again I'm happy with the sound of my squire strat set on the neck pickup with flat wound 13s. These things are just beautiful indulgences to me. I can do neither guitar justice, but they are there, staring at me, willing me get my act together, one day I will.
Please keep those knobs, they make it an Epiphone rather than a cheap Gibson knock off!
-
Ooh! VERY cool. The Elitists are criminally underrated guitars - IMO very much the equal of their Gibson counterparts, and for significantly less coin. The rumor is, that Gibson killed the Elitist line because they were so good, that they were seen as a threat to the sales of Gibson guitars. Congrats!
-
Lawson-stone ,
Congratulations - quite a dream. It's really beautiful and Im not surprised that it needed nothing. I've been very impressed with the Epiphone quality whenever I play them at my local Guitar Center. Tremendous value and a wise choice. Do enjoy her
-
Not that new to me now, because I have had her for a few weeks.
I have been busy with the Robert Conti study group, where we are going through the Ticket to Improv DVDs, we are having a short break now waiting for Lawson to get back from his travels, before starting volume 2 in August. Everyone is welcome to join us if they interested in learning some basic jazz language, I am enjoying the process, especially with my new axe.
anyway
I took the chance to take some photos to show off this amazing guitar, I could not be more happy with it.
-
These are great guitars for the price, and this one looks beautiful. I also like the Cornell Romany valve amp. I bet they sound good together.
-
Beautiful! I love blonde ES guitars! Enjoy it in good health!
-
Looks great. Sounds like an L5 for a fraction of the price and very good instruments overall. Congrats!

I had been hankering for something like this for a while, I cant stretch to a Gibson but I think this is the next best thing.
When this came up on the forum I didn't wast any time, credit to the previous owner he really looked after it, you wouldn't think it was 10 years old.
I tried to get a photo with the dog "Alfie" but he kept running away.
-
Congratulations! The Broadway Elitist is a SUPER guitar.
-
Alfie knows when he sees a dawg with the bigger pair of bollocks...

The build quality on those were marvelous. I can see why Gibson quickly pulled the plug on them.
Do enjoy that fine guitar.
-
nice..like the little extras..the imperial type tuning pegs, the knobs, and the inlays on bridge base...vintage it up a bit
enjoy
cheers

I have a 2006 just like that one. I also had a Gibson Wesmo for a while and did not feel like I wanted to keep both. The Gibson was the one I sold, if that says anything.
I play my ES-175 VOS a lot more than the Broadway these days, partly because it's so much lighter and more comfortable, but I have not sold the Epi. It's built like a Lexus, plays like butter, and sounds creamy.
-
They're delicious and I enjoyed playing mine tonight.
