Who makes them, other than (Japanese) D'Angelico and Eastman?

    May I ask :
why do you want a solid top for a semi ?
(not saying this is weird, just would like to understand)
    Thanks

I like the way spruce/ebony sounds, want the versatility of a semihollow.

I agree it DOES sound weird, BUT. I owned a D'A EX-SS and bought a D'A NYSS because I prefer the slightly shorter scale. Turns out I also liked the SOUND of the spruce NYSS better. Fuller freq range, with less of that maple lam midrange "honk." Was a surprise to me too, even with the center block. AND the NYSS's center block is BIGGER than the EX-SS's, and it STILL sounds better. Don't get me wrong, the EX is a damn nice semi, but even losing one fret clear of the body, I opted to keep the NYSS for its tone. (Now if I could just find a sb one ...)

CP Thornton's Jazz Elite. It's a 14" carved top instrument. It's not a full hollowbody but it's also not exactly a traditional semi. The top and back is hand tuned and has sound posts.

There were 18 of these GSR Guild Starfire VI built in New Hartford and I have only seen two for sale but I am sure you could find one with some looking around. If you find one you won't be sorry you bought it as they are great guitars. Spruce topped semi hollow with maple back and sides. Mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard, gold hardware and Duncan Seth Lover pick ups. she plays as sweet as she looks. Thanks John

PRS makes the JA-15. I had it up for sale but decided to keep it. Amazing with flat 12.

The Godin Multiac Jazz Spruce top fits the OP's requirements. Solid top and ebony fingerboard.

Carvin SH550 though it is heavily chambered rather than "semi hollow".

    Laminated, not solid.

Most of my semi-hollowbodies use a solid spruce top, solid wood back and sides also. As for why, it's harder to get a semi-hollowbody to resonate over a wide frequency range. Solid spruce helps with this both because of it's general liveliness and because of the lower stiffness along the grain, opposed to cross laminated maple having uniform stiffness in all directions.

I owned an SH550 for about 3 years. It was a very well crafted and visually beautiful (their "deep triple step" finish is absolutely stunning) instrument. While a great Blues/Rock guitar, the fretboard was too narrow for Chord Melody. I ordered the 12" radius. Perhaps the 14" radius would offer more room to maneuver.

Prestige Guitars (Canadian made), has a very nice 335-ish semi with Ebony fretboard and at a reasonable price. Excellent reviews. Worth a look.
