Ok ok, I know in recent posts I wanted or thought I wanted a smaller scale guitar,or at least was thinking of selling the LS-17 to by a nice 335 well I got the 335 and it's a beauty literally use it as my main guitar.
Then forum member silverfox put his GBBX700 up and my curiosity got the better of me. He lives just over the river from me so today I went to try it. The strangest thing it that I was expecting to puck up a beast of a guitar in size and weight scale etc, IT FELT SMALLER than the Sadowsky, easier *for me to play* and had that sound I was looking for.
Silverfox (Alan) was is just the nicest guy you can meet, he alerted me to some binding issues which I can hopefully get sorts easily, but even though he's got a lot of commitments right now I never felt rushed. He shared some fantastic stories too, and I got to play through some LOVELY amps, so I feel like I lost an old friend in the LS-17 but gained two new friends in Alan and the Guild!
Cheers Alan you are a true gent.
Ok ok pic.

Guilds may generally be the most underrated of all archtop guitars.
-
Guild Benedetto guitars made in Westerly (about 100 were made in total) are some of the finest guitars ever made. Congrats!
-
is that a Gibson case?
-
Hi joe, yes for the 335

Before I packed up the sadowsky I took the opportunity to A/B (or should I say Apple and Orange them)

The LS-17 is off to Belgium, just before I closed the case I noticed this sort of wedged under the lining!
Not sure if they are any good? I mean ..... It's brown.

Both are very, very good guitars. It comes down to--as you found out-- the sound and playability you are looking for. You cannot go wrong with a Guild!
-
Ps, is there any difference between this and a master built one, the label in mine has "westerly" CBB serial?

SS, how do you cope with their scale length that some believe is very problematic? Or is the scale length of the GBAA shorter than the GBJSA?

All I can say is that it feels incredibly easy to play, I have tiny hands.

archtop.com lists the scale length of your guitar as 25.5
You can read their listed spec sheet for your guitar on a former ad here:
https://www.archtop.com/ac_05stuart.html
I was referring to SS' Guild Benedetto Artist Award model.

Alan really is just one of the nicest people around.
Very beautifull guitar 55bar. I hope you enjoy a lot!

Honestly, the extra 1/8 inch in scale is barely noticeable to me while playing. It does put a bit more tension on the strings, so I use TI 12's on that one, instead of the TI 13's that I usually use on full size archtops. For me, this is a non issue. That said, I prefer the 25 inch scale to all others.

Your guitar has a GBB serial number which means that it was one of the 50 or so of these guitars built at the old Guild factory in Westerly RI. It was built out of European cello woods hand selected by Bob Benedetto. The luthiers who worked on your guitar were the most seasoned of the Westerly bunch and were personally trained by Bob Benedetto.
The pickups are Benedetto pickups made by Seymour Duncan. I do believe if you will measure the scale length accurately, you will find that the scale length is the Guild 25 5/8 (It is possible that this was only done on the Artist Award and not the Stuart, which may have a 25 1/2 scale, but I doubt it. Bob Benedetto said in an interview that he wanted to keep the Stuart and Artist Awards "Guilds" and not turn them into full blown Benedettos.)
You have obtained a rare and wonderful guitar. May it inspire your playing for many years to come!

Thanks this is great info, so no different to this one?

Should be the same guitar, though I am not sure all of that info is correct. I believe all of the GBB Stuarts made in Westerly were supplied without certificates. I also think the serial numbers go higher. The ones built in Nashville and Corona did come with the certificates. The Corona ones had a CBB serial number and a different label. I do know that a few were built at the Guild Custom shop in Nashville. I know little about these. The guy to look up and ask is Hans Moust, an expert on all things Guild.

Ask me about Gibsons, Porsches and bringing a woman to orgasm, I am your best source..
Kidding aside. It's a real beautiful guitar. 100% class all the way. And I understand the build quality is second to none.
Enjoy!

Hahah, considering we just lost to Iceland in the European championships 30mins ago, that actually made me laugh.

Aww, I thought this would be about Tim Buckley.
That is an impressive piece of guild, though. I've always had an unreasonable affinity* for them. Hope we get to hear it soon. Enjoy!
*my phone auto corrected "affinity" to "shitty", but I caught it in time

Got to LOVE Tim Buckley though.
