I have a Peavey Stereo Chorus 212 which is my main amp, I absolutely love the tones I can get with it and my guitar. Unfortunately it is pretty heavy and can be a hassle to lug about for gigs. This one only cost $150 so I wouldn't mind something old in the same price class
maybe 30w?
I tried a DV Mark jazz 12 at the store and was far from impressed. It doesn't have to be a typical "jazz amp", in fact the best would be a peavey chorus 112 or 110 if such a thing existed!
Any suggestions?

No expert on small portable amps, but just yesterday I was in a GC playing a Cordoba classical guitar with on board preamp and cutaway plugged into an Acoustic 40 watt amp. List price for the Cordoba with a cedar top was around $400 and the amp around $300.
In terms of the sound of this solid state amp for the classical nylon string, I thought the combination was quite good to cover a small to medium size room if one were playing solo or small combo guitar. Apparently there is a more powerful (80 watt?) amp in the Acoustic line that was not available to try, but I was told it is much heavier. The amp included effects and at least some EQ parameters. The 40 watt also apparently has a vocal channel that could be used with a LD condenser mic with phantom power.

Should be able to find an old Peavey Bandit 112 in that price range. Peavey ampd are heavy so saving in size, but not much in weight. Another good find would be and old Yamaha G112, but again smaller in size, but not much lighter.
Could just get a little trailer like GHEX did last year and it's Green Power.

^Only Yamaha G100 I could find was a 212 which weighs 25 kg! Absolute madness!

There's a guy near me selling a Studio Pro - looks like a 112. Any good?

Just testing here. I apologize in advance for this, but it appears that due to recent infraction, my posts are being PRECENSORED by a moderator. So the post does not appear until some moderator inspects it.
This one apparently slipped through the dragnet.

You want the chorus in the amp? That limits your options a bit. Otherwise an old Bandit 1x12 would be a good choice.

It's not a MUST, but I love the chorus in the 212 because it's not a great chorus(!), so you get a very distinctive sound with a tiny amount of it, and some Scofieldian craziness with a lot of it. I'll look for a Bandit 112 to try.
Do they have send/return?
-
Yes, I believe they have 'pre amp out' and 'power amp in'.

A used Roland Cube might work for you. I don't know if it has a chorus function, but that is easy to fix with a pedal. I have the new JC-40 coming tomorrow. I just played through one today, and it is a great little amp, although a bit more than your price range.

I do have a vintage Cube 30 but I'm not quite sure if that's the one I want

Your on the right track with Peavey amps. I have a Peavey Envoy that I bought new in 2012 for $230. Incredible value with transtube technologies. The clean channel has 3 amp cab type settings that go from twin type tone to a very warm tweed amp. Same with the distortion channel, 3 selections and all good stuff for sure.

But now I have an L-5 w/ single humbucker, and I can't seem to get it right.
I don't need or want any effects, at all , and just use a little reverb. Just low volume and even tone response, w/ some bottom.
What settings do you use, ( I'm assuming you use the 'warm' on lead channel right ?? ) That seems to be what I've settled on for now. I just can't seem to get the treble out of this, and it's too bad. These amps are as quiet as an amp can be, but what's the secret ?
Thanks !!

In that case you are in Quilter territory. Check out the 101 mini for starters: Quilter Amps

.....I have one also.....they're as clean as solid state gets.....just can't seem to back down the highs......

Thanks and yes that does sound pretty good !

The EQ works pretty strangely. It's not really a three band eq as the mid control actually covers the treble frequency of the guitar with the treble control just adding presence. I normally run the treble set to 0, mid some where between 9-12 o'clock and bass at 12 o'clock.
I'm playing my Victor Baker archtop through a Strymon Timeline and Flint in that clip.
